Roughing up micarta

I just ordered a Myerco Wharning and am wondering if anyone has ever tried to give a little more gription to micarta scales. That is my only beef w the ronin is that it's too slickery for me.I love the look of this knife and at $18 figured why not.

Hey jack,
I made micarta scales for my tenacious, and at first sanded them down to around 600 grit.
To me, the scales felt a little slippery.
So i went back and roughed them up with 80 grit paper, and it improved the grip factor quite a bit.
Sanding with a courser grip paper raises the fabrics texture.
Micarta with this texture seems to get even grippier when it gets wet.
I havent done it myself, but sandblasting would give the same effect.

Also, you can try anso texturing them. I like it quite a lot, it gives tremendous grip, and on the double layered G10/Micarta, it also exposes the bottom layers for a cool pattern. Here's a link:http://jungletraining.com/forums/sho...o-Anso-Pattern

Also a great idea. I love modding anyway so this may be the answer.

May i ask, is the Micarta paper, linen, or canvas?

"Micarta" is all I know so far. Being fairly ignorant of the material I'm not sure how I would know. I'm assuming canvas micarta may be rougher? The only micarta scaled knife I have is the ronin.

All three can be polished smooth, all three can be roughed up. When polished, the paper has an almost uniform color while the linen and canvas show the weave of the cloth.
