Hobo knife

I have been looking around lately for a Hobo knife. I know there are lots of companies that make them, but would prefer something made by Spyderco. I feel one might sell well since you have all the people out their gearing up for the Zombie Apocolypse/ end of Civilization. Others like me would want one for Camping, hiking etc.

Currently when I take my lunch to work I have to carry a knife , spoon, and fork. It would be much nicer to have them all in one compact unit. They would have to come apart of course. H1 steel might be cool for corrosion resistance. I figure it would be good for the knife to be serrated, and the spoon and fork be reasonably sized. Maybe orange or yellow g10 for the scales.

What does everyone think? Would it be a good seller or a total flop?

There's titanium flatware out there... lightweight and very corrosion resistant.

The Spyderwrench and Byrdwrench attempted the multi-tool scene and were discontinued. I'm not sure how something would do with a spoon but you never know!

Interesting thought, but after contemplation I wouldn't be interested. If pressed in the way I would need such a tool I could easily adopt to chopsticks or just use fingers to eat. For campers a cheap fork and spoon is very light and easy to tuck away. It's the knife and the edge that comes with it that is the primary tool.

Too much of the useability of the blade would be compromised by the extra appendages. These thoughts are influenced by memories from my youth of folding knife,fork,spoon knives. Maybe with some thought a design could be made useful without too much sacrifice of utility? Like I said intially, Interesting thought.

A little weird is good, it's the normal ones you have to watch out for A talented designer might well make good from the effort. For me it would depend on what they came up with Thought, research and time would have to go into any such effort. I am intrigued by your idea

Just for giggles, I would start by modeling a Delica, then trying to incorporate the utensils on either side folding opposite the blade and trying to figure out how to incorporate them into the handle. Utensils would most likely have to be compromised a bit. Utensils would not need a lock, maybe the blade wouldn't either?.......It's been a long week It'd make for a pretty thick handle, then again I'm not a knife designer

Well the thing about a spork is that it is too much of a compromise.....it isn't effective as a fork or a spoon. It works better as a spoon but not a fork, at least from my experience.

Of course they would operate independently, just locking isn't required. Just putting a picture together in my head I might need to see if I can squeeze in modeling a Delica at work

Actually the one I mentioned has a full spoon on one end, and an entirely functional fork on the other with a serrated side as a knife, ideally one would pair this with a so you have a proper spoon fork and knife.
Just saying there's pretty much anything you can think of already available if you look around. Maybe you can draw up what your thinking? You'd probably have more luck with commissioning a custom maker rather than getting spyderco to actually put something into production.

All I know is a Spoon with a Spyderhole is probably a pretty crappy spoon. I'd buy one to support the cause, I like the idea of keeping such a folder in my desk. Nothing worse than ordering food at work and not getting utensils.

You are probably right. Just thought I would throw it out there. The only quality hobo knife I have seen was the Case version. Just thought it would be cool to have a version made from high tech materials and have Spyderco serrations on the blade.

I bought a Kabar Hobo style knife not long ago. In the future I plan on spending more to get the lighter, corrosion resistant stuff. I have a Ti spork and it's great!.

I have one of the cheap, available-in-walmart-sporting-goods type hobo tools and it's not bad, but better steel for the spoon fork and knife and either removal of or better design of the corkscrew would be cool, and I wouldn't mind a decent can opener (thinking something similar to the military issue P38 or P51 could work)

I had one of those types of kits with stainless steel, Sal - will have to keep my eyes peeled for a deal on a titanium set as budget permits.

Keeping a folding eating tool clean might be a problem, but if I had to have a folder, I'd be inclined to fit a spork on the end of an all Steel Delica.

In my backpacking days it I carried a table spoon and a fixed blade knife. Total pack weight was more important than proper eating tools and the large spoon is good for stirring.
