I'll second the Foobar2k recommendation; it's not the most flashy player/toolset out there, but it has nice preset options for the converter. I have a preset specifically for converting lossless files and copying them to specified locations: I just highlight the songs in the playlist, right click, 'convert->"phone"', and it's done.
Foobar's CD-extraction error correction is also competitive with EAC. (EAC, in my experience, can extract more data from scratched CDs, but for other CDs Foobar's results are sometimes better.
