    Is this black Endura legit?

Hello forum, first post here. I just bought this knife on eBay last week. It looks very nice, but doesn't open as smoothly as my red one. I also noticed when I had them beside one another that the stamps were not the same. Most notably, "Seki-City" on the red one and "Seki-Japan" on the black. That's when I googled "fake spyderco", and found this forum. Any thoughts appreciated.

    Cheers, Brendan.

I have a waved Endura4 and it reads exactly:

    Left side:
    SPYDERCO
    VG-10

    Right Side:
    SEKI-CITY
    JAPAN

Someone on here will be able to tell you for sure if it's fake. You came to the right place.

I don't know judging from the close up pictures, but my Endura 1 says:

    SPYDERCO
    G-2 STAINLESS

    on one side and

    SEKI-CITY
    JAPAN

    on the other.

    My clip says

    US AND FOREIGN PATENTS

The round logo on the zytel says CLIPIT ENDURA.

    Welcome to the forums!

Those pics came out a little rough when downsized. Here's a shot at some better ones.

Hey thanks for the replies. I've got a bad feeling about this one. Luckily it's still within the return period.

I don't see anything that screams fake, and I can't recall ever seeing a really good fake Endura 1. The tang markings on most models change over time. The dies used to stamp them wear out and the new ones are often slightly different. During the early 90's steel identifiers began to be added, and steels have changed several times over the years since then. IIRC, there were even changes made to the mold for the handles, the clips were made wider and other changes may have been made as well.

As for smoothness, not all knives of a given model have equally smooth actions straight out of the box, even if they're from the same batch. Many smooth out with use, which can also be a factor on older knives where you have no idea how often they've been opened and closed. On older "NIB" knives grease can dry out and become a source of friction, rather than a lubricant.

At first glance and without any more info, I think that they are probable fine.
There has been revisions to the information on the knives thru the years and
these don't look out of the ordinary.

It's fine, just an early gen 1 endura.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

This looks a lot like one of my Gen 1 models. I concur with Deacon. Back in the early 90s, folks weren't counterfeiting Spydercos like they are today...
