That is true but many based on misguided listings. "Numbered Spyderco, extremely rare" and that kind of crap.

Value on goods like pocket knives is hardly as stable as other commodities/hobbies and one look at the stock market even has those all over the board.

^-- I'm agreeing with you despite all this blather.

Your right in that a CC# knife is only rare to the extent that this is the only knife of that make and model with that number on it. What I am trying to figure out is why there are people out there that presumably are knife collectors bidding on these items that fall for that crap. Non collectors would not bid that high for a knife (most non collectors I know can't believe anyone would pay more than $20 for a pocket knife), so it must be speculators or other sellers who hope that the hype on the CC# knives is true and will get them even more money down the line.
The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Sometimes the knife is more important than what's on it. If one of my grails had a number I doubt I would care with how much I'd love the knife. I would not pay more for a number but in the same note I would not let it factor into the purchase of the knife.

Not sure this makes sense to anyone but me
