    Spyderco Sharpmaker Question

To get a razor edge on my Delica on either 40 deg or 30 deg. I have to turn the knife ever so slightly towards the middle of the sharpmaker (away from the stones) I am not hitting the edge on both sides of the knife due to the sharpie trick. Is this bad technique and should I stop this? Is this telling me a re-profile is in effect and I need to buy the diamond stones. This seems to be the case for my Delica and Endura.

What you did is the right thing to do. And from my experience, this is how you should use the sharpmaker. Sharpening is about consistency. The 30 or 40 deg is just a guide. Doing the method that you mentioned will greatly speed up your sharpening. Shall you want to really stick to the 30/40 you will indeed have to rebevel and it will take you ages. Have not tried the diamond stones yet.

See my post on the sharpmaker regarding the matter here.

I was starting to get aggravated due to the angle being off. I was wondering if I should get these knives professionally sharpened or reprofiled. I will give it a shot with this method. Thank you for your comments

You could get the diamond stones or you can wrap 120 grit wet/dry on your rods of you're planning to rebevel.

Sounds like a great excuse to get an edge pro or wicked edge.

I'm surprised you need more than a 40 degree angle to hit the edge!

Your hitting the edge & that's what counts. But I'd look I to doing the back bevel sometime soon 40 plus is just too much for me.
