    Persian 2 question.....

Yesterday I received my new Persian 2 ( C83GP2 ) from my favorite knife dealer. I quickly opened it with high hopes for it to be my new EDC. I wasn't too happy with what I found. The blade was tough to get out. I sprayed it out with compressed air, lubed it and adjusted the pivot screw. This made little to no difference. Now because it's pinned, I can't open it to find out why it's soo tight and sticky. I'm sending it back tomorrow or Monday but I thought I'd ask if this is normal for that model. I've never had a quality folder that wouldn't flick open.

Moki builds tight knives and the Persian 2 is one of theirs. It's not quite as stiff as the bolstered versions, but it's definitely not a flickable knife.

I have 2 mini Persian (old & new version) & 1 red Persian. Unfortunately, none of them opens easily.

Ahh so it is normal. This is the problem with ordering things without handling them first. I love the blade but I don't know if I can stand it being like that.

Also, the pivot screw has brownish gunk on the threads, is that some kind of factory thread locker ?

Thanks for the quick replies by the way !

Its possible there could be some type of thread locker causing the blade to drag more. Have you cleaned the pivot area of the blade. Since you said you would disassemble if screw construction and plan on using as an EDC. I would see if I could figure it out myself. Just cleaning thoroughly and then lubricating. I don't see air doing much good unless your blowing out some visible dirt or lint.
Really a well fitted knife in my opinion and can only get better with use.

I just check mine out and I don't think its thread lock. easy to un-thread. It may be a lubricant. Mine came with a light stain around the pivot screw which I figured was grease or lube. Blade is easily removable and replaceable. I wonder what kind of improvement nano oil could make on the Persian. Wonder if anyone has had any improvements with this specific model and a nano oil application.

While you shouldn't have to do this, if it was me I would probably plug in a movie and lube/work the action countless times. My Massad Ayoob came EXTREMELY gritty and was easy to clean out. The Caly3 wasn't as bad but was harder to get glass smooth.

When I did though it was remarkable. Hope such is the same and you don't have to mail yours in or back to the dealer.

I guess for me, a small folding knife from a quality maker should be close to perfect out of the box. I'm sending it back to the dealer and getting a Superleaf instead. I know it's a totally different blade but I wanted it as well.

Two problems here. First being that not all locks have equal potential where "flickability" is concerned and that midlocks and lockbacks tend to be the least flickable. The other is that not everyone wants a flickable knife. Some prefer a knife which gives them greater confidence that it won't open accidentally in their pocket. Some, especially those who favor midlocks, strongly prefer one where the blade doesn't drop like a stone when the lock is released. Others simply feel that a knife that starts out tight will take longer to get sloppy loose than one that's halfway there straight out of the box. Mid

My persian 2 was quite stiff out of the box too, I notice almost every photo I see of them have the same stain on the g10 around the pivot. But with some lubrication and use it loosens up a bit, its definitely a solid feeling knife I never questioned that there was anything "wrong" with it, purely a feature of the design. Compare that to say para 2 which swings freely but the trade off is slight blade play.

I got my Small Persian in November, it feels like it opens much easier than when I first got it, but still not a flickable knife.

I want to say that not only is the strong spring fighting against it, but also there are some angles that make it difficult. in the closed position, the thumb hole is close to in-line with the pivot and the distance the hole is from the pivot makes for what seems like a very wide arc that the hole has to travel on.

I love the small persian, though!
