    Parra 2 blade play

    Can some one help.
I have three parra 2 and all have blade play not up and down but side to side. They were all bought new and had it in the beginning so I have pulled them apart and cleaned and reoiled them but its still there.I was thinking of sanding the pivot ends slightly on very fine wet and dry.Pivots in the knives are tight. Please dont chew me out,I cannot send them back for warranty as I am in Sydney and customs would keep them and destroy.

Seems to be part of the new bushing system. Mine has it as well. I just live with it as it does nothing to affect safety or functionality.

Might try using the search feature for more help.

I have only two and both Paras are trouble free. Seems odd to have this happen and feel sad for you.

Would it be possible to see if you can get similar bushers which are slightly wider? Ask Spyderco first and if no, try locally. You could try this first if possible.

IMHO a little play is understandable for any folder. If in factory spec it rarely (if ever) has anything to do with safety.

While frustrating I can understand your hunt to eliminate it. Just make sure things are buttoned up properly and the mods don't endanger your fingers.

Due to the new pivot design of the Manix 2 and ParaMillie2 there may be some side to side play. I've had several Manix's now and all had side to side play. They use much the same system as a Sebenza, however Spyderco's tolerances are not as tight, so some play will happen. They are not $300-$400 knives, so I would just live with it. Fine sandpaper will likely work, but if you take off too much you can't go back.

I hope you are able to get them adjusted to your satisfaction. Good luck with your mods.

Wow! "just live with it". I would not want to.
With the one you opened up, you could get a machine shop to use the lathe to remove a tiny bit of the sholder area on the pin.(in other words reduce the length of the larger diameter area) This should make the blade tighter. All in all if they should remove too much, you solve the too tight issue by loostening the pivot screw.
    You choose.
    Good luck.

I certainly agree. If it bothers someone there is always something that can be done. It's just a matter of having the right tools/training or money to find someone to perform the mods for you.

That said, it's important to always clarify mods as such. The OP sounds completely civil and grounded which is refreshing in the world of knife forums . Still, if a modded knife has a lock failure or develops additional quirks I want to be on record with the basic "at your own risk" disclaimer.

I agree if it bothers him try and get it sorted. My opinion is "I just live with it as it does nothing to affect safety or functionality".

Same here personally. I'm a pragmatist when it comes to folders.

I have three PM2s (digi, black, and blue) and the only one without "minimal" side to side play is the blue (and I'd guess since it's the newest). I understand people's expectations with regards to tolerances nowadays, however, it really doesn't bother me. I love being able to open and close the knife with one hand. Also, all of my steel handle spydies (Police, Endure, Harpy) all have the same amount of play.

I've owned 3 and all came out of the box rock solid but developed side to side play once broken in. I think the average person wouldn't even know it's there unless you know to look for it. It has absolutely no effect on use. As long as the blade doesn't jiggle when i shake the knife in one hand, i'm good.

I am sure once my para2's get more use under their blades they will develop the same play and I am of the same opinion as you Evil.
