I was kidding about the GB. I hate mine. I threw it away because I'm not mean enough to sell a piece of junk like this even to an enemy.

Kidding of course. You'll love it I'm sure.

Before buying I recommend you also check out the Chaparral. Almost the same knife (even price) except a little smaller, different lock. If you need or want a little more heft the Sage1 is the ticket but most office knife needs I've ever experienced the Chaparral is plenty strong enough for. It's thinner, even the blade. I was trying to decide on the Sage1 or Chaparral and got the Sage1 first because if I could only have one I'd want the heftier one. Just a thought. Also, the titanium Chaparral will be out in a few months. It will be almost twice the price but looks to be a wonderful knife. If you got a Sage1 now you could choose which Chaparral to get later if you want one. I mean, somebody has to have all the money I don't have. Maybe it's you.

Jack, I think we have traded posts before on the usefulness of small knives and my particular fondness for my Jester. It's great for work and does everything I need a knife for. I'm fixin' to buy me a G10 manbug, too, also for the office and general use.

Again, my thanks to all for your informative responses. I'm new to the knife world and always learn something new and useful from you all

Yup. I've gotten sucked into the small knife world. The Ladybug never did excite me. I hate saying that because I know the LB is a very "up to the job" knife for small knives. I carried a LB salt for a while but only to always have a knife on me. I always grabbed my regular EDC when I cut something. Now though, I have the Jester and both Manbugs. All three or any three or just one or just two or any combination is a great choice. I'll almost always have another larger knife with me but these feel more like real knives to me than the LB did and I'd feel comfortable with only a Jester or Manbug and nothing else most of the time. Most of us guys like to believe we are he-man lumberjacks (or is it just me? ) but I could live with only a Manbug and still be able to provide for the family. We would have to stop eating grizzly bear steaks though. Even a he-man lumberjack like me needs a GB to take on the grizzlies.

Waterford, this is an excellent idea for you! I have the Chapparral, too (dang, when did I buy all these knives?), and it's wonderful for office use. It's like a smaller version of the Sage 1, making it even more carriable (?) for office environments. Another tough little beauty.

Yep. I want the manbug because it's so practical and useful, like the Jester, it's just that bigger blades are definitely more fun.

I'm a card-carrying member of the small-knife club as well, Jack. As someone on the Forum here says: "My favorite knife is the one I have in my pocket" - and most of the time during weekdays this is a small lightweight folder. Dfly ZDP, Baby Goddard, Jester micarta, LB H1, Manbug FRN, Squeak - the list of impressive Spyderco small blades is awe-inspiring. Very few knife companies have produced this variety and quality of small blades over the years.

There are a few that I really like, the MW is one that I really like, and I really kind of want a G10 ManBug....but I'm not a fan of the blade shape. And I picked up a couple of the chinese cheap ones off ebay just to get a new knife (all I can afford right now) and the ones I got are quite small, but good little knives.

Course that doesn't stop me having my GB in my pocket every day...just means that I have a small one for when there are NKP around.

It is my favorite grind, wish that Spyderco would do more of them.

I'd be all over the Manbug if not for one thing...the name. Sorry, the Ladybug is adorable and a real insect. It's spouse sounds like an internet parody video.

I want to be. I really do. I own a bunch of them. But my big ole hands just don't get on with them. Even things like a Caly 3 are kinda too small for me to use comfortably. Good backup, just to slice something open. Then again, in my hands, a Gayle Bradley is kind of a small knife, so I guess it's all good

Have you tried a spin? Besides the sweet wharnclife blade it fits my big mits great in a very secure three finger grip. I highly recommend it if you have big hands and most other small knives don't fit right.
Current : Para2's Brown, Blue & Orange, Etched Spin, CF Caly3 ZDP189, Gayle Bradley, UKPK Orange G10, Manix2 M4, Sage 1, Caly 3.5 in Super Blue, Urban Orange G10

I haven't. Is it a liner lock? That might be better.... I do have a Lava. It's about the most comfortable of the small knives I own. Fine, really, once it's deployed. But getting it there it very awkward. My hands aren't just big, they are very stiff and somewhat arthritic. Knives like the Lil'Temp and Phoenix just work better in them.

If you try out the sage1 & GB side by side only one conclusion will be found. The sage feels like a toy, a great toy but still a toy. I actually laughed out loud.

I never thought I'd hear anyone call the Sage1 a toy but compared to the GB I guess a lot of great knives could be viewed that way. This is a huge compliment for the GB.

Ken it is a frame lock and the pocket clip provides a great leverage point for opening and closing for those of us with big hands, can post some pics if you would like, just let me know.

I wouldn't consider any Sage a toy. Even a Dragonfly which is a banter weight and "plastic" is extremely strong and confidence inspiring.
