    Hi Marty,

    Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

I guess we're going to be in trouble when apples are grown with zippers and steaks are cloned into bite sized pieces.

Thanks for the welcome Sal. I got my first PM2 only a couple weeks ago in a trade. The next was a Sage 1. Then another PM2. And a couple days ago the GB arrived. I have collected and used knives for a long time. But over the years it was mostly traditionals. Then last year I ran across some modern quality folders at a flea market, and got them for pennies on the dollar. So far I have tried BM's, Kershaws, Gerber, Sog, Kershaw, and ZT previous to getting my Spyderco's. And, I must compliment you and your crew at Spyderco Sal. The fit, finish and quality materials you put into Spyderco knives are unmatched. The four Spyderco's I recently aquired have thoroughly impressed me.

I am a knife user. I use them in the garden, yard, field hunting and fishing, garage, kitchen.......etc. I am never far from a blade. And the Spyderco knives I have now slice/cut better than any other brand I have tried. Even tho I love meat, apples, tomatoes, potatoes......etc don't stand a chance around me. I love using the Spyderco's. The ergo's on them are better than any other brand I have tried.

All I can say is WELL DONE. I will be aquiring more Spyderco's.
    Thanks,

    Marty

Thats what I hear about m4. Thats ok by me. Patina gives a blade character, and soul. I have several Case knives with cv steel and they patina also. It will be interesting to see the patina develop on the GB.
    Thanks,

    Marty

I dunno, I put some things like silicone spray and metal polish on my GB when I first got it. It doesn't patina worth a dang now. It has just darkened the slightest bit.

I've read posts here saying M4 doesn't patina as quickly as other carbon steels. Add the corrosion prevention products and it appears we have a very nice carbon steel that doesn't have the corrosion issues we used to have to deal with.

My corrosion concerns focus on the tang of folding knives, places you can't see. So far my GB hasn't had any corrosion at all except for the small amount of patina I've been able to force. I have and plan to take it apart every few months or once a year to apply Tuf-Glide to the tang and all internal metal parts (even though they are SS). I'm glad it's easy to get back together. My knives don't get wet very often. I did go swimming with my Jester the other day. Forgot it was in my pocket. Old man memory kicking in.

When I first used my GB, it quickly developed a patina. One day I just decided to polish away the patina with some metal polish. I succeeded but as a result my GB doesn't patina now. I cut some green wood with it once and just forgot to clean it after. It developed some rust and pitting but only on the bevel and not on the other parts of the blade. My theory was, whatever protected the rest of the blade was worn away by my maintenance stropping on the bevel.

Funny how I have found myself eating a lot more fruit since slipping a nice sharp spydie into my pocket.

Maybe I am different, but I love the original M4 look on my GB. I use it quite a bit so
I know that it will change with time though.

You are probably tired of hearing this but Tuf-Glide will keep your GB blade looking new. I couldn't get my Manix2 with M4 to patina on purpose after using TG. That's pretty strong evidence of it's performance I think. That's what I think anyway. The only place I wanted patina was on the tang. I wanted extra corrosion protection on places that could trap water and are hard to see.
