Won a Centofante 4 last night

    Hey guys,

Was browsing the bay last night and came across a Centofante 4 that I figured I'd put a bid on and ended up winning it. Looks like I paid about the average going price, but seems like there are far more Cento 3s on the market than the wharncliffe'd 4s, is this correct? If so, why?

Hadn't read any reviews/watched videos about the Centofante, how do people like it?

    Thanks guys!

It was discontinued a coupe years back. Mainly I think because most people don't get/want Wharnies.

That said its an amazing knife. Lightweight, 3" blade (exactly) and devilishly sharp.

I'd been looking for some VG-10 to see how it handles/sharpens since I've got everything but. Kinda found it strange that I didn't have one of Spyderco's most used steels.

The Cento line is a treat for that. With the 2mm hollow grind it sharpens extremely easy.

I have the 3 version and love it. The Centofante line is really overlooked.

Thanks! I'd seen that guy selling two or three over the past month and I'd expect he's got a few more squirreled away. If this comes in and it's not my thing though, now I know who to talk to

Really though, he's right most people just don't get it. Wharnies are definitely a specialized blade. Also no offense to Kershaw, but Leek sales don't really say much considering the masses of uneducated folks buying them up at Walmart. I think people are more drawn to the assisted open than anything else.

As for the Cento 4, it's a sweet knife and one of my favorites. I also want a 3 but haven't got around to getting one yet. It's funny because these knives go against most of the things i look for...they don't have a 50/50 choil, they don't have a grippy/textured grip and i usually don't care much for hollow grind, yet despite all that i still love it. Someday i hope they bring back the compression lock versions for an improved sprint.

Yea I think the best comparison is two blade shapes of the same knife. The Cento3 came out before the 4 and survived the chopping block.

There are other examples (including the Yojimbo) but that doesn't detract from how cool they are.

I love my Centofante 4. I think the Wharnie blades just don't draw the same crowd so it got discontinued quite a while back. Me, I'm a huge fan. It's a good looking knife. A bit more classy than a Delica or something along those lines and it's got great ergos and cuts real well. Congrats on scoring one.

I have 2. One is my EDC work knife in the building trade & the other is his backup.
I hope to die before they are both lost or whatever.
I tried so many knives before finding the perfect one for my work.
    So light to carry.
    So easy to sharpen.
    So thin but strong.

I also have two. I also hope one spare is enough. I did cave in and buy a Cento 3 as well, and I'm very happy with it. It's in second place behind the 4 in pocket time.

You know, this is interesting because just three weeks ago I found an online dealer who still carried the Cento4 in stock for about $70 (including S+H). Naturally, I ordered one immediately (). Less than 24 hours later, however, I received an e-mail from the company stating, "We're sorry, but we no longer carry this model in stock." Boo. About the only other place I've seen them recently is on the 'Bay...

Just got it in the mail, and into my paws. Everything about the knife is mint, but I still put a drop or two of Tuf-Glide on the action just to ensure it's protected. Going to touch up the edge tonight just for kicks and the experience of sharpening VG-10, but other than that the knife is great.

A few things surprised me: how light the knife is, how thin the blade is, how I really like the hollow grind on this knife, how sturdy the handle feels with the single liner, how my first wharnie feels...now it's just a fight over pocket time. If you don't have one, definitely look for one.
