Red face First Spyderco ever Shower me with praise ! and Pics

After recently stumbling upon the tons of Paramilitary 2 videos online a voice in my head, said I need that knife. 1 week later thanks to Knifecenter which actually had them instock. It arrived this morning. Now I am a civilian soon out of college and never owned anything more than a keychain boxcutter this is a huge step up. I plan to EDC this knife. And I have already placed an order for C81GPBK2 in all black. Figured its the same knife only better. There is zero play side to side or front to back. Definitely a Spyderco fan. Note in the pictures I bought them all the same month definitely needed the multitools and the Smith and Wesson is a $10 knife from Amazon but it has zero blade play front or back side to side and once sharpened will be a good box cutter for home use and do the dirty work I won't put on the Para 2. Already looking forward to my next orders. Probably get a Benchmade down the line.

I got an all black DLC Para2 about a month ago and been loving it ever since, great knife. It's big but disappears in your pocket and it feels great in the hand. Enjoy your new knife!

    Welcome to the addiction

First, i'll throw out some praise for the Leatherman and the Para 2. Both are awesome tools. The Para 2 for obvious reasons is one of the best EDC knives out right now. The Charge is also one of the best offerings that Leatherman has. You have good taste in those.

As for the other two....well, i've had a bunch of Gerber multi's over the years. They're good in a pinch but i'll trade them all for that one Leatherman you have. I also have a SOG Powerlock which is a beast of a mulit tool. The S&W knife....well, i guess it can't go wrong as a beater knife, but for me the primary thing i cut is actually cardboard, and i can tell you without a doubt that the Para 2 you have there is more than up for the task, and will do a much better job than the S&W will. Try this....make 50 cuts with each one and when you're done, tell me which one was easiest, which one fatigued your hand more, which one sliced easier, and which one still has a decent edge left. There's a reason Spyderco doesn't make guns...there's a reason S&W should stick to making only guns

Thank you to Evil D and computernut. I was looking for the right word and addiction is definitely it. Not like a drug but something useful. Definitely will need one or 2 more. Prices will just go up and up. Finished ordering the Paramilitary 2 in All Black.
Tried cutting cardboard both the Leatherman and Para 2 are S30V but the Para 2 is CPM S30V just in the hand you can feel a difference in cutting. Tried finding the videos on YouTube bit could not it cuts amazingly.

Also just ordered a new Kershaw Tilt Knife, they had a few instock but quickly sold out. Said I got the last one.

I'm pretty sure the Leatherman is the same CPM S30V, they just didn't etch the whole name on there (unless some other steel company is making S30V that i'm not aware of). The thing i was trying to say about the S&W is that it just doesn't have good steel compared to the Para 2, and the grind of the blade and ergonomics will make a big difference in cutting performance. If you made 50 back to back cuts with the S&W and the Para 2, the Para 2 would have an edge long after the S&W gave up the fight.

Welcome to the forum and Congratz on the blades. The Para2 is also my all time favorite. Mines a Digi Cam satin blade and the XHP one is on the way. Though I would like to buy the entire range of the Para2 line, I won't. True, prices only go up but with Spyderco, usually the quality by way of improvements do too.
    Centofante3 (C66PBK3), ParaMilitary2 (C81GPCMO), Endura4 (C10P), GrassHopper (C138P), Military (C36GPCMO), Perrin PPT (C135GP), Squeak (C154PBK), Dragonfly 2 Salt (C28PYL2), Military M390 CF (C36CFM390P), R (C67GF), ParaMilitary2 CTS-XHP (C81GPOR2), Tuff (C151GTIP), Ladybug & Perrin Street Bowie (FB04PBB)being the newest.

    Nice knife!

Did you really have to get your bare feet in the frame on 2 out of 3 photos?

Didn't even notice my feet, the background was too dark.

Good start to my collection. And Sandstone tiles will be coming soon I hear. Where can I get a good slash reasonable carry case or display case for my new collection I'd hate to just throw them in a drawer. Right now they are just attached to my Maxpedition Sitka EDC bag.

It looks like a window sill. If it was a hotel room, then maybe his wife found out already.

Ice, those are terrific videos. If I didn't already have a Para 2 I would run right out and get one after watching those cutting demos.

Welcome IceCold, great choice for your first Spydie. Watch the credit card
close, it can get out of hand quickly. The sharpmaker is something to think
about at some point in time. You have to keep em sharp.

Yes even the Sprint run HXP steel or what ever its called. I've used some of my older brothers knives in the past Gerbers but nothing like the Para 2. I just hope the Kershaw and Benchmade are this sharp out of the box Since I dont have any sharpening tools or any skills on how to even sharpen.

Not that my 1 day old Para 2 would need it. I've literally take hair thin slices out of flimsy store receipt paper. It has to be scalpel sharp

    Welcome to SpydieLand!

Great choice for your first ... and second Spydercos.

I have a number of different Spydies, and I didn't reach for, or appreciate the Para2 at first. Now I own the exact same 2 that you do, and I now understand why it is regarded as one of the best EDCs available ... build, ergos, steel ... the whole package.

Your appreciation of the compression lock will deepen as well ... you'll see. You'll start wishing other models had it.

With regard to other brands, Mr. Glesser's sage guidance must be heeded, and so I will leave my commentary at this - some are very fine knives, I have tried quite a few myself. Good quality can be found, and some pretty fair steels, but for my money, none brings home the total package of high end steel, build quality, erogonomics, and usability for the price like Spyderco. It has taken me many years and many hours and many ducats to figure that one out.

Your mileage may vary - this is just my opinion (and we know what that's worth), but as you are just striking out in your venture, I felt compelled to share it.

Good Luck, and again - Welcome!

    ~ Edge
