Pigs are actually one of the smartest animals in the planet. LMAO!

I just won a Les George fixed blade VECP in CPM 3V in a GAW so my day is made. Hehehe.

There's the ignore function. If you can figure out how to use that without getting butthurt.

And here I thought this place was friendly to balisongs, but the way you're talking about flippers is making me sad. I like y2k rollovers and arial tricks with my knives.

    OK, here's the thing:

Spyderco makes n number of knives per sprint. The dealers who arrange for exclusive runs contract for x number of knives per exclusive.

Spyderco and the Dealers set prices for sprints/exclusives. It is uncommon for these runs not to sell out. Furthermore, it is quite common for knives from these runs to sell for significantly higher prices than the original run.

These data suggest that Spyderco and the Dealers have not set their prices anywhere close to the actual equilibrium between the supply of knives (x or n) and the demand for the product. The prices are, in fact, reflective of a much lower level of demand than actually exists.

By undercharging for these knives (relative to the demand), Spyderco and the Dealers are creating free money for flippers -- the flippers get to collect the difference between the original price and the subsequent secondary market price, which more accurately tracks the equilibrium between supply and demand.

We can say that we wish that nobody out there had noticed this opportunity to pick free money off the ground. But that's basically the story: Spyderco and the Dealers are underpricing the knives, and the flippers are actually charging what the market will bear.

Remember: if the flippers were actually charging prices too steep to sell out their stock, they would be stuck with knives they didn't want. Those inflated secondary-market prices you guys are getting mad about are the real price.

I hope no one bought them because they are still availabe at bento. But the people who thought they were going to double their money in just a few days were disappointed. So sorry.

    Jack
I bought one of those from Bentos for about $154 about 2-3 months ago. It was a nice knife, but much too WIDE of a blade for me to carry EDC. I don't need that wide of a blade. I never carried it out of the house, IIRC, and sold it for $140 about 2 weeks ago as ANIB. I also lost money on a BenchMade AFCK a week later. I'm just constantly on the search (recently, anyway) and buy a knife, keep it for a month or so and then sell it for a small loss.

OTOH, I did buy two Sprints recently: a NIB Bob Lum Tanto and a Para2 S90V. I've been after that S90V for a long time, but they are pricey these days. I'm glad to finally get it, however, and won't be letting that one go. I also have that knife in 20CP, and I like it a lot, but that steel never quite got all the hoopla of the S90V. Knives like these, I'll carry in EDC rotation and then give them to my boys.

I'm not much of a businessman, I guess. But, like Jack, I'm gradually getting together a "set" of EDC's that I'm fond of.

I hope the actions & words of a few do not leave a bad taste in your mouth, or leave you with a negative opinion or experience of the forum. It is my belief that newcomers and junior members are vital to the forum and to the knife community in general, no matter what your preferred brand of knife is. *

FWIW, I chose to not even acknowledge or respond to the snide, condescending pot-shot that he took at me earlier in this very thread. Heck, another guy indirectly called me an idiot by linking me to the “moron’s guide to economics” or some such thing. *I suppose I leave myself open to those kind of attacks because I’m not part of the ‘in crowd’ or the ‘clique’ here on the forum. *But that’s OK, I’m not going to go back on what I said, it’s just my opinion, nothing more. Which is why you will seldom see a “comment edited by” or a “comment deleted by” notation at the bottom of any of my posts.

We all have our moments of smug soap box preaching. In the end disagreements can (and should) happen but intent should kept remotely civil. Personal attacks should have no place here. If we want to uphold a respectful place of knife community.

On that note I did take a pot shot at Gordon and regret it (sorry). I think it was a combination of tones and a lack of courtesy on both sides. Respect is earned but everyone should be granted basic courtesy. My bad.

In the end the ignore filter should be used. Immature perhaps but better preemptive with the filtering than with the repartee. Trust me.

everyday i surprised this thread isnt locked. i love the funny drama that comes with it but on spydercos friendly forum i choose to not really get into it, ive seriously never been involved in a more honest and friendly forum until this one.

that being said though if you didnt preorder the knife your complaining about stop whining and blame yourself, move on, ive been just as guilty for the same problem. unless you can afford the collectors club prices most likely youre not gonna get them all.

I'm more guilty than most Blerv but as you mentioned, smug soapbox preaching on both sides of a coin does often make for a less respectful tone towards those with a different persuasion. We do get carried away when the discussion goes towards what is near to our hearts.

Once again you have hit the nail on the head , judicious use of the ignore function will work wonders for those with less tolerance.

There also seems to be an abundance of "last worditis" in various forums including this one.

It is too bad people can't remain civil. Not sure if fanning the flames is what Sal expects of us on this forum.

It becomes pretty clear who subscribes to the ideals we seem to praise spyderco for.

Not really the forum I thought it was.

Hey, I returned it with interest. No hard feelings here. Sorry if I offended you.

I did filter him. It still shows that he posted. Other forums will hide that, too. Is there a way to do that here? I'd rather not be reminded that he exists.

That would be me. But it's not a moron's guide. It's written so that anyone who graduated high school can understand it, yes, but that's because the writing is so good. Sowell explains things so clearly that they suddenly seem simple. My problem is that I get really frustrated that so few people actually bother to learn something so important. And it shows. Sorry about that.

Buy sprints and sell them for a profit? What else would we do with them?

People are talking like there is another option available here.
