    Any sterile Chinooks ever made?

I saw an internet auction for a Spyderco Chinook today. The auction references the photos for questions about the place of manufacture.

The photos show what looks like a Chinook, and the Spyderco logo is stamped into the clip.

The strange thing is that there appears to be no place of manufacture nor blade steel designation on the blade. I recall that some models of the Chinook had the James Keating logo added as well. This one has nothing.

Does anyone know if Spyderco ever released any sterile Chinooks?

Maybe this one was a production prototype?

We never intentionally made any sterile pieces. Might have been "liberated" by dishonest crew?

Does it look reground by chance?

Better to be a skeptic proven wrong than naively surprised. In this situation odds are with the latter.

It's possible that the blade was reground but my eyes are not skilled enough to confirm this via the photos in the auction.

I would hate to think that any of the (hopefully past) Spydercrew would have been dishonest enough to pilfer from the mothership.

There's a better chance it might by a knock off spyderco chinook...there is a company in China ( a pretty big one no names please) but they do make knockoffs of Spyderco, Boker, CRKT and others, they also do Striders and copies of some other upscale custom folder makers, they do fixed blades as well.....and they have their own custom shop.....Putting aside the rights and wrongs, the laws and patents issues, international copyright infringement and downright design stealing.....I must say most of the products at least from this company are as good if not better made knives than the production knife design they were copied from. But they always seem to leave out some little tidbit that you always find on the originals......Just a thought.....Doc

Doc, if it's the same company I'm thinking about they even do fake Gerber Sportsmen from the 80's, the M2 bladed Gerber hunter which goes for about $600 on up, and the Gerber Sportsmen 2 in "V" steel ( Bogus of course) which is how I found them. Fake antique collectors knives as well as modern copies of Striders, Spydercos, etc.

I think they make good Rolex copies, too.
