Whould you buy a strop from Spyderco?

As far as I know one product Spyderco doesn't make that is used often is the strop. I would buy a strop from Spyderco without asking the questions I've been asking about materieal used (usually leather), compound, etc. I've asked these questions and made different strops based on the info I got. The most recent I made is a 4 sided strop copied from the Strop Bat that Wilderness Survivor asked about. I trust Spyderco to use the best choices available. Of course there may not be any "best" choices, just lots of good ones. It could be called a Spyder Strop.

If they did this what would you like. Small, large, one side, multiple sides, grit level (coarse to very fine), handle or not, etc.?

BTW, like most of my great ideas this one isn't mine. Dr. Snubnose mentioned it in a post I read a minute ago.

Probably not. I have a few strops that I have accumulated over the last few years of using a straight razor.

If I didn't have one, I would not rule out Spyderco.

It would still depend on the style, material, and price as compared to what is currently available.

Would I buy one? Probably I don't need one. I have plenty of quality strops, both pasted and plain. But I probably would.

Depending on material, setup and price I might. I think a three sided strop would be ideal. I would be curious as to what type of paste they would choose to use if any. An interesting idea Jack/Doc.

Thumbs up A Spyderco Strop? Yes Definitely I would

I would try any new sharpening equipment and/or accessories that would come forth from the Great Spyder Factory. I have no doubt at all that any strop or other sharpening aid that Spyderco would put their name upon would be nothing less than excellent quality.

Right now I believe the only sharpening tool that Spyderco has that I don't own is the larger/specialize ultra-fine stone. And it's on my list to get as soon as funds are freed up. I'm a very devoted fan of Spyderco's sharpening tools and I bet that not many of you all have a Galley V. That's how long I've used Spyderco's sharpening tools.

I would truly welcome a strop from Spyderco.

While I wouldn't exactly rule out a Spyderco strop, if they made them... it doesn't really seem to be the kind of thing that needs the Spyderco touch. How exactly would they re-engineer a strop to make it better?
(Yes, they did get into bench stones, but it seems to me that was in order to fill a gap in what was available from elsewhere, and also as a product of the partnerships that made the Edgemaker a reality. There isn't really a leatherworking partnership that I've seen in Spyderco's history...)

No. I made my own years, and years, and years ago. Frankly, I don't use it all that often. I'm not in the "uber" polished group. However, that's not to say that a touch up on the strop isn't a quick and efficient way to bring back an edge.

I'm not a fanboy. I would be as likely to buy it from Spyderco as Sams strop shop. So if it were something special like many of the knives are, then yes. If a random strop with the logo, then no.

If they keep to the standard belief of functionality over form I would love to support them.

While not a strop I'm lookin forward to adding a Goldenstone to aid with edge touch-up. It seems another quick and convenient way that doesn't require assembly.

My thoughts exactly. I keep thinking about getting one, but right now am too lazy to do the research on which one to get or how to make my own. I bought the Doublestuff stone to get the hard leather sheath that some folks us as a mini-strop, but have yet to get any diamond pastes or anything...no time or too lazy...either way I dont have one yet.

A strop is nothing more than a piece of good leather for polishing, not a magical wonder tool even if treated with abrasives.

I would look, but most likely would not buy.

Developing a strop system that delivers consistent results is an interesting idea, but the form of any such system evades me at this point in time.

All of the sharpening stones that they offer that include a suede leather case can be used for stropping.

I have used the case of the Double-Stuff stone quite a bit for touching up edges and final edge polishing too.
My favorite Spyderco knives include: Caly 3.5, Chaparral, Delica 4 FFG, Stretch, Para-Military 2, Endura 4 FFG, Manix 2 & Manix 2 XL!

I was thinking of some type of self-contained portable option. A folding one with paste, water, etc. Basicallly a way to carry it with you or not make such a dang mess .

Why not a strop that can be used with the sharpmaker?
