Under 3" blade, nice looking (even classy). I like the Chaparral with carbon fiber scales as a gents knife. Now when the Chaparral Stealth comes I'm thinking that will be the ultimate gentleman's knife. It really looks sharp (or does in a short video), thin, light. Very nice knife I think.

I know I'm in the minority here but, to me, a gentleman's knife should be fairly thin, fairly narrow, its handle should be either bolster and scales or all stainless with a defined area for a monogram, and it should not have a clip or visible screw heads anywhere on it.

Small, light, and somewhat decorative. I consider the Chaparrals, Des Horn, Kopas, original Kiwis to be great ones, to name a few. And of course, the upcoming Bradley Air.
Latest Spydies: Centofante Memory, Air, Chaparral 2, Damascus Caly 3, CF Dodo, Starmate, Szabo folder, Breeden Rescue, Puukko, Southard, Dyad Jr (thanks dbcad!), Calypso Sprint, SB Caly 3, Ulize, Ronin, Moonglow Native 5, Goddard Lightweight Sprint, Lum Tanto FB Sprint (on the way!)
    On pre-order: Green 204P Paramilitary 2

Something sophisticated with a slim blade. A clip is optional but mainly something like a modern Case knife.

For me while it's been done to death the Cento3 is hard to beat for the price. Others like the Phoenix, Caly3 ZDP, Sage 1/2/4, Kiwi, Kopa are quite classy.

If I need to dress up nicely and want to carry a knife I will take my CF Kopa or sometimes even the CF ZDP Caly3. and rarely but sometimes my CF UKPK.

most of the time the CF Kopa wins out.

Whoa, whoa. No one has said the Memory yet?? I don't even like gent's folders, but that design exudes class, if you ask me. But, I think all the other models mentioned do, too.

Looking forward to the Air. Of the knifes I've owned or handled, the Chris Reeve Mnandi is the ultimate gentleman's knife. Of the Spyderco knives, I'd say Cricket, Kopa, Dragonfly (esp G-10). By the time you get to the Chaparral or Caly 3 you're at or above the upper limits in size, IMO.

I like the simple elegance of the Kiwi or the Des Horn. If I was going for a larger blade, it would be the Sage 4.

First: NO Clip. If it has one...not a gentleman's knife.

Second: Should be a fairly narrow blade.

Third: No G10 or FRN...even CF is a stretch. Natural materials yes.

Fourth: Inconspicuous design. If it draws a lot of attention because it looks like HR Giger designed it, not a gentleman's knife.

These are the things that make a true and proper gentleman's knife.

Whenever I wear a suit I make sure I am carrying a Stretch or a Military. I don't use clips so they are both good.

    You:

    a) remove your BK7 from an inside-the-waistband sheath, causing the widow to retract in fear and drop her Gin and Tonic; her security personnel wrestle you to the ground and remove you from the estate; or,

    b) you casually remove a small, finely crafted folder hand-made of exquisite and costly materials. You expertly slice the lime with its razor edge, and place a slice in the widow's drink. Your hand casually touches hers, precipitating her to blush. After an embarrassed pause, she asks if you might accompany her and and her sister on a private walking tour of the riding stables. You accept, and begin your stroll as the sun begins to set behind the adjacent hills.
If your answer is b), you were carrying a gent's knife.
