    Nutnfancy

So... I see topics on other forums about him... do any of you watch him? If so... what do you think of him.

I watched him for maybe a few months a year or two ago... then his videos starting to be longer than the titanic, and he started to say stuff that didn't quite make sense, so I stopped.

Figured I would create such a topic here, so I can have some more humor in my day

The only thing I agree with him on, jimping. I love it. I don't know why I love it, but I do and so does he.

He did trick me into buying a Skyline. Once I got it I realized his opinions are not to be trusted. Not only him but all the pushers on youtube like Sootch and to a lesser extent Cutlery Lover. Although a little annoying with his editing, I do like Adam from Equip 2 Endure. I also like stschmalhaus for gear and jdavis882 for knives. I think those three get it.

NFP gets a thumbs down from me.

I readily admit that I watch some of his reviews from time to time.

The first Spyderco commentary that I came across while researching knives last year was from Nutnfancy, so in a way, he helped influence my decision to choose Spyderco over all the other manufacturers.

While I do appreciate clear thoughts and thorough reviews, I also use video to observe a knife that I may be interested in or simply one that I don't know much about. You can stare at still images all day long and only gain so much information, but seeing a knife in hand at different angles gives one a much better idea as to the size and design and Nutn' generally uses nice close up camera work with his knife footage.

He can ramble and be lengthy at times, but the way I look at, if you can educate yourself in any way form his reviews (or any review) than it was worth the watch.

Nut has nice footage and he does know quite a bit. Compared to the droves of reviewers who maybe give you 50% of the right info he is in the upper 80%-90% range. In pure facts that is. He's the gateway to collecting and appreciating these hobbies and I started watching him.

Where it gets bad (just keepin it real) is much of his judgement is arbitrary. When opinions become creedo and people start repeating them w/o coming up with their own thoughts it get kinda perturbing.

    "I don't do serrations...HATE them"
"I don't do hawkbills, just not my thing."
    "I don't edc anything over 4oz"
"I modified it with grip tape!"
    "Check out that deployment!"
"I gotta be able to take my knives apart."

We all have our perspectives but I think he pushes his a bit too hard. Once you stop thinking about your own individuality the world gets pretty bland. If half his readers tried a serrated hawkbill they would giggle with joy.

I still watch him occasionally. Some eye rolling an some genuine thought. Just good to keep your own brain turned on.

If you don't kiss his ass, your blocked. The guy can't take criticism. I watched his videos for a long time, until I found out about other guys with great youtube channels that know a lot more about knives. I bet the guy is sponsored by knife companies.

Jdavis882 on YouTube is the man! Lately though he has gotten in to some very high $$$ knives and not as many spydies. His sharpening skills and knowledge has taught me a ton!

IMO... if he can't convince me his video is worth watching in the first 2 minutes I'm not going to watch. I don't want to hear him ramble about crap that's going on today for the first 5 minutes of a video. He needs to get to the point.

As some of you have said, he's very biased. Are you truly going to notice the difference between carrying a 4oz knife and a 6oz knife? No.

And continuing the fact is his shady background... never exactly states what he does... he says he was in the armed services... but what does he do now that he can constantly make videos and do other BS testing and still be able to make a living? Like someone said, I think he's getting paid.

Maybe he's Gecko45 in plain sight...?

He really puts some hard work into his reviews. For example, his Buck Hoodlam review was by far one of the best I've seen. (Application, philosophy of use, footage of it being used etc) Though I must admit his knowledge is a little bit behind.

I truly enjoy his backpacking / camping videos. He just released his Jeremiah Johnson Trip videos which I really enjoyed. I don't have the time to go out and play anymore. Watching those videos are the closest thing I got to it!

DUDES...NOT AGAIN. Don't kick the horse if it's already dead. I first watched his video on a cold steel rajah 1. Liked the knife so much that I bought it. Keep it for awhile and sold it when I saw I could make a nice profit on it. Don't watch videos anymore...he can get very expensive.

He's one of the best weapon and cutting tool reviewers around.

Has a EDC system that will drive the rest of us EDCrs mad. This is since he carries multiple knives, firearms and other gear on his person.

    A great communicator and outdoorsman.

    Highly regarded and jovial.

Aprt from the above, this is my personal thoughts on the gentleman: He is destined to venture in to the knife trade by 2021.

I don't agree with many of his views, his videos are getting too long so I tend to fast forward through most of the non subject related stuff. I also respect him for hauling 70 lbs of stuff up a mountain by himself and thrash them.

Either way he seems to enjoy what he's doing, is making a pretty penny doing it, and there are people who take his videos as gospel, so it all works out.

I thought he made a video on that when he retired, Colonel in the air force or something. He is making quite a bit money with his youtube channel, coupled with his pension I'm sure he's living very comfortably.

imo, he's just some kid with to much money to spend on knives and thinks he knows something about steels cause he puts a mirror polish on a blade and cuts some rope. Then, begs for donations.
I emphasize KID, because how much knowledge do you think he really has compared to other older and wiser folks?

Btw, when was the last time you had to cut 10+ feet of rope?

I agree with Blerv. I started watching his videos years ago when searching for information on Microtech & Benchmade knives. I miss the old school knife reviews that he used to do. I do think he is very informative about the fine details that most other reviews get wrong or just didn't research. I could do without the catch phrases and sound effects, but it does illude to his underlying passion for what he is doing. I admire the freedom he has to devote to his project and spending time out doing what we all love. FWIW, his multi-tool reviews are probably the most informative of anyones. I will continue to watch the project because of series videos like the recent Jerimiah Johnson. I saw photos of him with the Spydie Hossom Forester and really wanted to see him thrash that thing. Overall, if you are watching videos on youtube you could be getting your information/entertainment from alot worse!

I've watched a few of his videos to get a good look at a knife before I buy it.

I don't agree with a lot of what he says-serrated knives rock-

I can learn a little from his videos usually. Unlike a lot of you tube reviews
