Endura 4 with wave impressions...

I went to my local gun/outdoors shop the other day and fondled a couple Spydies. As i browsed through the limited selection, i asked to hold the Endura 4 with the Emerson wave. I always saw this knife on the forum and heard talk about it, but never really figured it would work well, and i honestly thought it looked kinda goofy. Well after whipping that thing out of my pocket a few times, i was blown away. I couldnt believe how amazing it worked... every time (i was in Volcom skate shorts). The action felt smooth and getting it to deploy was not nearly as difficult as i thought it would be.

After my play time was up, i decided to go home and do some price searching and found it for $69. I just bought it tonight and cant wait for it to come in...

Moral of the story...don't judge a book by its cover

I have one, but honestly I don't carry it much anymore. I'll keep it in my tool bag sometimes in case I need something with a really stout tip because it does have that. I'm sure the wave would be great in a tactical situation, but for just deploying it for regular use it might scare some folks... LOL

I'll tell you what it is good for... Opening beer bottles. Just open the blade and lock it before you do. I cut myself once using the wave to pry on something when the knife was closed. It didn't stay closed.

I work in a knife shop and have regular access to the Endura and Delica waves, several Emersons, the Cold Steel Ti-Lite, and CRKT M-16s. It's my experience that the Spyderco waves actually work better than the Emersons.

However, and I hate to say this, I actually think the M-16 and Ti-Lite work even better. The M-16 because it's smooth and straight (not a hook), and the Ti-Lite because it's jimped and actually curved the other way (hard to explain, it's lind of the opposite of a hook, but the jimping catches on your pocket). But neither of these open beer.

This all said, if I was going to get a pocket-flipper, I'd go with the Endura Wave. I'd get it for quick opening in emergency situations, such as self-defense, and because it's such a stout blade. Also, better steel than the M-16.

I really like the waved models; the blade shape is great. I did use mine as an opener quite a bit and it seems to have added a bit of play.

If you hold the blade closed, you can minimize the play you get from using it as an opener.
