What really boggles my mind is that the real XM-18 uses that same POS looking slot head pivot screw.

Sure it may be ugly. But I must say it doesn't strip out like 95% of other pivot screws. Frankly I'd rather have that type on a lot of my knives, could care less if it is pretty

IMO, if you are stripping out Torx, Allen head or Phillips head pivot screws more easily than a slotted screw you must be using the wrong tool and way too much torque.

    That's lame .

As for the pivot screw I fail to see how a flat head would ever look nice or be less strip resistant assuming proper tools are used. If better its probably on the basis of shear size.

Not that the pivot will loosen a significant amount on you in the field. But a flat head requires no special tool that you would need to carry. I also think it gives the knife a more rugged look.

I've stripped torx far more than flat heads. Especially the tiny little torx screws found on clips. No I don't go at them with a power tool. I hand tighten em snug, maybe I'm just too strong for my own good.

I always did find it odd that he uses a slot screwdriver for the pivot but it makes sense that if you do have to adjust it, odds are greater that you'll have a slot on you than any other style of driver. Of course I'm still waiting for a knifemaker to use a Robertson for the pivot
