why do spyderco knives say the planet their made from?

I could be wrong but I take it as a (gentle) nudge at "Buy American" types. I think Sal sees all Spydercos coming from the same place - workshops filled with craftsmen dedicated to quality and performance. Don't choose your knife based on the location stamped on the blade, because they all come from Earth.

Golden is a bit far out and we didn't want to create any confusion?

I will say that some don't like it, or understand it, but from a marketing point of view, it has come to have value.
