Has anyone removed the glossy finish on CF scales?

My CF harpy is starting to show little cracks in the finish around the scews, pivot, and lanyard hole. None of my other carbon fiber scaled knives have the same kind of glossy finish that Spyderco has put on this knife. Is there any way to remove the finish and make it a more natural matte finish? If so how have you done this?

Maybe rough it up a bit with a very high grit wet sand paper?

I don't think I would take sandpaper to carbon fiber. I have a small scratch on the scale of my Gayle Bradley, and those fibers when they fray are pretty evil!

I imagine you'd want to put another layer of finish on to protect it.

I havent done it, but have thought about it. It should theoretically end up like the buffed CF on the Caly 3. I thought the same, use wet sand paper or even a medium grit paper

the cf on these high gloss Spydercos always arent perfect around the clip holes, the resin chips very easy. i wouldnt worry about it unless its really bad.

I have 5 CF Delicas, 4 new in box and 1 current user, they all have small chips and cracks, think its something they couldnt avoid while drilling those clip holes so close to the edge.

I sanded a custom CF scale I have with 60 grit sandpaper perpendicular to the blade. It was polished and smooth....sanding it made very small groves and gave it pretty good traction and a kinda matte finish. I would consider doing the same thing to my Caly 3 if I could get it apart!

I've thought about this as well. I don't like the shiny look on my Sage1, and much prefer a matte finish on CF.

I'm thinking about taking the clip off, and wet sanding the scales while on the knife. Not really sure though, and hoping to see a post one day showing someone that's tried it on the Taiwan CF.

You can't do much for polished CF, short of replacing them with textured G10.

If you're hell-bent on doing it, start with some very fine steel wool before going to something that cuts really fast like sandpaper.

    Thanks guys.
I'll just leave it alone for now. I don't want to run the risk of ruining it.
