“Pardon the dumb question, but I'd like to know...” (Perhaps Kristi can help?)

    Hey all,

I had a little time to kill this evening and thought I’d ask a dumb question. (My curious mind needs to know, I suppose ).

I recently occurred to me that some of the “older” members of this forum (myself included) all seem to have the same “first post” date of 9/24/2004 (this includes Mr. Glesser also, interestingly enough). After doing a few searches, I discovered that one of my first posts as a member was actually in December of 2001.

My question is this: Was there some sort of mass “rebooting” or reconfiguration of the Forums on 9/24/2004, thereby causing any pre-dating members to have the same “first post” date of 9/24/04? It seems somewhat reasonable, I suppose. Like I said, this is a rather dumb question, but my curiosity is starting to get the best of me...

Any help, insight, or light jesting is appreciated.

It is due to a crash. If I remember it was an attempt at a forum upgrade.

That was before my time, but as I understand it, that is the date that the "new" (back then anyway) Spyderco site went live. I believe the forum was originally on a different type of software and was converted over to VBulletin on that day with the new site. Everyone who was a current member ended up with the same date for their join date as that was the first day running VBulletin.
There is nothing more important than this one day.

That certainly makes sense. I've often wondered about what happened, but now I know. Thanks for the info, Kristi.

    Take care,

For those who want to know what was happening way back when the Spyderco.com Forum was new.

Wow, that's pretty cool to just go through and look round. Some of the same stuff as now.

I love it! Back in 2000, someone was asking for a "Compression Lock Millie"! And here 12 years later, we have, like 167 different variations of the Para/Para2!

LOL! Right on, BAL, right on. So I suppose we can just blame this snafu on Buddy Holly, eh?

That is neat! To think, we've really come a long way. I do miss several of the old Formites such as Clay Kesting, Kahz, Jaxon, Java, Krazie Kurtis, Vampyrewolf, et al. I often wonder if they'll ever come back someday.

Too true, Ted! It just seems like yesterday I remember hearing rumors about a possible model called a "Paramilitary." At the time, many seemed to think it would be a pretty good idea. Little did we know that the Paramilitary would one day revolutionize the knife world as we know it today.

    Take care, guys.
