Spyderco 2012 Prototype - Marcin Slysz Techno

Last year’s Techno was the custom knife by Marcin Slysz, this proto has been ‘spyderized’. The Techno was one of my favorites at the meet. The stubby thick little folder handled very nicely. It’s kind of like my Ti Salsa, but leaner and tougher. The knife locked up very nicely and the action was very smooth. The blade was surprisingly thick, but the full flat grind should make it a good cutter. The blue spacer makes for a nice surprise, on an otherwise ‘plain’ looking titanium integral locking folder. This one is high on my wishlist!

Oh yes, the Starmate-Prototype was awesome. Unfortunately, if my memory serves me right, the steel will be "only" VG-10 and there will no more Terzuola-logo on the handle.

I'm glad to see the Starmate is coming soon. This is one I definitely missed out on, and will be glad to have.

The Techno looks really good with that pocket worn look.

Spyderco 2012 Prototype - Ed Schempp Tuff

The Tuff has been making the rounds as a concept and prototype for quite a few years now. Compared to the crude concept model from four meets ago, this is a very refined design. I like the dimples much better than the more ‘spikey’ texture from last year’s meet. The fuller in the blade remains a very impressive feature on this folding knife.

And that's all folks, I ain't got not any new prototype pictures left. Well, there was the gray G-10 Jester sprint run, but that's been out for a while right? I could do that one next week, when I get back from the IWA show in Germany, I gotta go pack for that actually.

Starmate looks good, but didn't it have nested liners? Seems I'll be sticking with the Millie for my larger folder

Well none of the currently used Japanese steels would be my choice for a Starmate...but it still a stunning knife that has a lot of things I really like going for it. So, despite the steel choice, I'll get one.

The Tuff has never done anything at all for me...and still doesn't.

The Techno is a knife that I loved loved the prototype for, but have slowly and steadily been more and more disappointed in. As it stands now...I won't get one. I highly dislike the clip, I hate that blue backspacer and the price is far too high.

Thank you so much for the pictures. That Tuff looks sweet. Can't wait til its released. The dimpled handles are new but I don't remember what the prototype had.

Oh no. I'm not liking those dimples very much.
This one is now going to have to seriously grow on me.

Thanks so much for your hard work again this year. You always take spectacular shots that really give us a good idea what the knives are really like...and much knife pron to drool over.

Thanks for all the pictures. So the Tuff is S30v and not 3v?

    Stunned Silence

Wow, just wow... my head is spinning and I don't even know where to begin to comment. The next couple of years will be very exciting as, hopefully, all of these will be released.
Wouter, you have done an awe inspiring job with this thread.

I thought the Tuff would be in 3V as well. I like the dimples on the scales. Can't wait until this one hits the markets.

I can live with the dimples, I just want it to be in CPM-3V. I really, really hope it's not in S30V. That would be a bit of a let down.

Ya, get rid of the dimples. No need for a bowtie on a bulldozer. Also if this isnt in 3v, I will be extremely disapointed, like stated by others in this thread.

The Tuff is tricky. I love the dimples on the Ti side, dislike them on the G-10 side, love the pivot, love the clip, and will be extremely disappointed if S30V has replaced 3V for the steel of choice. In fact, if it ends up using S30V, I will likely not pick this up.

The more I look, the less I like. Those dimples look completely out of place on that knife. If it's also lacking the interesting new steel, this will likely have gone from top 3 to completely off my list.

Anyway, thank you very much for all the excellent photography in this thread. It's definitely going to be a great year!

The previous Tuff proto was also S30V but Ed has said all along that it will be 3V. Since this is the first 3V blade they will be doing in Taiwan they probaby don't have any on hand until they get the big shipment right before production.

I love the dimples as I do most negative jimping.
