    My mailman stole my knife...

?; or just made a mistake. usps tracker shows my Lionspy was delivered fri. morning. Funny thing is I was home fri. morning and didn't hear my mailman/woman come around soo early. Usually, they show up a bit later. Anticipating the delivery of my $300 Lionspy that I've been waiting to get my hands on for over a year now you know damn well my ears were open wide.

So, finishing my work just before noon. I thought what the heck, let me go check and see if my package arrived. Went to the mailbox and no knife. Even though my package was scheduled for fri. I thought perhaps the tracker was wrong or maybe I had another mailman that was going to come around later and hopefully knock/ring my doorbell and deliver my package.

It's not soo much that it's an expensive knife and someone else might have it in their hands. It's that I've been waiting soo long for it and it's still out of my grasp...what to do.

Well, being a hardcore knifenut and fanboy. I plan and will fulfill going around to every garbage can monday morning in my gated community neighborhood to search and see if my package was stolen...NO BS.

long story short...pay xtra for sig. confirmation. maybe I'm jumping the gun on this? Only time will tell for sure.

    Thanks for hearing me vent.

    Josh

Oh **** I just had a thought. What if the same neighbor that could have possibly stole my knife be reading this. Well, I just got one thing to say. Don't throw away that package...I'll get you.

It, most likely, is a glitch in the USPS's tracking system. Happens to me quite a bit. Of course, I live in a small town. All mail goes first to a larger city north of us. It is then put on a pallet and delivered to our local post office. What should happen with mail/packages that are to be tracked is that once the mail reaches our post office the local tracking system should indicate that the item(s) have been received by the post office destination and are being sorted, then the next tracking should be that they are out for delivery, followed by that all important "delivered." Many times, what happens here is that as soon as the mail reaches our post office it is recorded as "delivered" (as in delivered to the destination post office) in the tracking system. No other tracking information is provided after that point. I have complained about this many times. Still happens on every so often. My guess is that this is what happened. Then again, I maybe wrong and the mailman is having lots of fun with that LionSpy. I know I am certainly enjoying mine!!

USPS tracking service is horrible and is hardly ever accurate. I ALWAYS have problems with their tracking service and I've seen online that it's pretty common.

    This ^^^^^^^

It happens all the time. Packages read delivered and show up a few date later. Call the Post Office.

I'd say at my town the USPS tracking is accurate most of the time like 8 out of 10 times it is accurate. But, when it is wrong it is way wrong. I have thought about it and don't know if their computer system is updated as a result of scanning the barcode on the shipping label or manually edited by a person. If a person does it there is no telling what they may type in if they make a mistake. I did have a package marked as delivered in Jacksonville, FL when in fact Jacksonville was one of the stops en route to my house. Someone there entered delivered by mistake and it came to my house the next day.

My prediction and hope is your Lionspy will be in your hand tomorrow.

I concur. They mark the package as delivered when it arrives at the destination PO. Sometimes it doesn't go out for delivery for two or three days.

Is there any question why they are losing money and UPS/FedEx are cleaning their clock?

USPS is pretty good at my house. I think it's because they take good care of their horses.

Angry The US Post Office is a complete Joke

I concur about the USPS Which is why Fed Ex and UPS continue to take more and more of the marketshare as time goes by.

My local Post Office is nothing short of a joke on Saturday Night Live First of all you only have 2 people running the joint and they literally take 1 hour and 15 minutes for lunch everyday ( in metropolitan Kansas City, Missouri I might add) and completely close down the Post Office while they are taking this extremely long lunch break. >> I ask myself why in the year 2012 is a United States Post Office taking lunch breaks and closing the place down for almost an hour an a half everyday No wonder these idiots are losing business at an exponential rate. And to top that off both of the people who work there make it a point to be extremely rude and arrogant to everyone.

About the only reason I use them is because the Postal Money Orders are about the safest and best way to pay for a knife through the mail. And your seller can cash the Money Order at the Post Office itself. But when I send a serious package ( $400 plus) through the mail I always use either UPS or Fed Ex and insure them to the full value. I don't trust the Post Office for anything serious anymore at all.

I predict that in about 5 years there will no longer be a US Postal Service. If they sold stock on the NYSE it wouldn't bring more than 12 cents a share at the most

    Finally...
it was indeed put in the wrong box. but, I have it now.
I still would definitely consider paying xtra for insurance and sig. confirmation next time.

Glad you got it. Insurance seems like a big waste of money until you need it. Then it's worth it's weight in knives.

Reference insurance and such. Now, I am not a lawyer (and certainly did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night) .... but, as I understand this (from what I have read over the years), insurance benefits the seller (directly) and the recipient (only indirectly). Buying something is a contract. Someone offers the sale of something and someone purchases said item. The purchaser is contractually obligated to pay for the item and the seller contractually obligated to send it. The contract is not fulfilled until 1) the seller receives the money and 2) the purchaser receives the item. The seller is not going to send the item out until it is paid for. Therefore the purchaser fulfills his/her part of the contract in advance. If the item is not received ... regardless of the reason ... the contract has not been fulfilled on the part of the sender. If the seller wants to protect him/herself against liability in the event the item is not received ... the seller should purchase insurance (or otherwise include the cost in the overall price of the product). So, if a purchaser never receives a purchased item .... the seller is still on the hook to get a replacement to the purchaser at no additional cost. I am not saying this might not come without major hassle .... but this is how I understand things. I just hate it whenever a seller (of any kind of product) tries to make it seem like the "purchaser" should pay an additional cost for insurance protection (for added piece of mind)!

As an ITL buyer I will always choose fedex over usps, I havent had any bad experience with the USPS, but fedex provides a far better service, in tracking, and delivery times, they are also usually cheaper, I just wish more companies would offer it, most ship strictly usps.
