Third week and beyond (if there are any left) lift the order limit.
Not a bad idea if you ask me. Not sure how easy or hard this would be to implement though.

Now this I would totally go for. It would also mean Spyderco know exactly how many pieces to manufacture.

Ah well, I would love to have a forum knife but I'm well aware that it might be out of my price range. International shipping would add another 35 USD to the bottom line. So I'm really not holding my breath here.

A lot of good points are being made here Have to say I disagree with a post count.

I'm just going to sit back and see how Spyderco decides to offer this model. Try to relax and bear in mind that the offer of a Forum piece is a sign of appreciation on Spyderco's part. Most of us already enjoy some fine Spyderco's. An offer like this just feels like a bit of sweet icing

However things work out, I'll ride with it

+1 of course. Any forum member is a forum member.

I strongly beleive it doesn't matter how Spyderco will decide to proceed with sale of Forum knives, everyone who really want one and intend to support this with $$ and some effort will get it.
The only thing I do not like the idea of limit 1. If I love the model, like in case of Native5 I would like to get two and do not see any good reason why not. If Spyderco need a limit, I feel that two is more reasonable.

You guys are killing me, I will admit my first post was in a thread about this forum knife but I promise I lerked in this forum for a long while. I do most of my spydie posting on BF where I have been a member since 09. I currently have 2 PM2 (digi and blue M390), Gayle Bradley, Delica 4 ZDP, and a sharpmaker. I have owned and sold a regular delica 4, persistence, ladybug, native 3, among others I sure I am forgetting........Please don't cut me out of this wonderful chance at a great knife due to my post count and join date!!!! I am buying 1 knife to use, fondle, and cherish, no flipping here!!!!!

You are probably aware of this but I think the limit of 2 or 3 per person or whatever is just to keep someone from buying a bunch of knives just to sell them later at a much higher price to people here (and elsewhere I guess) that wanted one but didn't get one because they were all gone (because someone bought gobs of them). I see nothing wrong with buying and selling to make a profit but in this situation I think it's just rude.

I seriously doubt there will be a minimum number of posts requirement (as anybody can do 100 spam posts) and I have a hard time imagining that there will be a sign up date cutoff either. I think the most likely scenario is a quantity limit (much the same way the mule team program works) that would be lifted if there are still knives remaining after a certain amount of time.

Let me just add this and see if we can eliminate the cause for concern. We will place a limit on the knife when it's available for purchase (at least initially and that will probably be a limit of 2). There will be no requirement regarding being an active member or being a member for any length of time (we simply don't have the ability without investing serious programming or crew time). We are acutely aware of past issues with forum knife sales and we will take every precaution that we can to insure that the sale of the 2012 forum knife is as fair as possible.

I am very glad that TazKristi chimed in and let us know what to expect. I am still looking forward to buying a Forum knife and I can't wait till it's release date.

    Very cool, thank you

I can certainly see the desire to establish a minimum post count - its one of the reasons I didn't get a USN catcherman, I didn't feel "established" at all on the forum, and didn't want to take away from someone who had been there for a few years, or what have you. But at the same time, as mentioned before, not all members have the time, or the need, to post. I lurked here for quite some time, as I did on bladeforums, soaking in knowledge from those with more experience than I. Personally, I think a minimum purchase order is great, and a relatively fair way to distribute the knives. at the very least, new members (including myself) should honor the "veterans" out there, order one knife, and not rush to grab it ASAP. Certainly every member here is entitled to one (or two if they so choose), but an unspoken rule of respect is certainly due.

Just my humble opinion, stemming from my respect for those with a greater experience than I, and placing myself on the other side of the equation. If I have been a member for 5 years, have 2k posts, would I want someone who joined 3 months ago to get what I have a somewhat greater right to? of course not. I, for one, will sit back for a few hours, and order one if there happens to be some leftover for those who have not contributed as much towards creating.

Sorry for the rant, just my $.02

No reason to hold back now! It has been out for some time (if a USN member really wanted one, they'd have one by now) and is still available. If you really want a Catcherman, you should order one.

Well, I think Kristi has given us everything we could want on that topic.

Now on to the other topic: What's it going to be?

Who came up with the minimum post requirement idea? Somehow, I don't think it was anyone from Spyderco.
