Lightbulb Working on my knife storage

I was starting to fill up my Craftsman tool box with my s. It has been a work in progress . My first step was to made an extra tray for my enduras. i put pretty good size holes on all four sides so i can pick up the it easily. here is the bottom of the drawer

and here is the tray that sits on top of all of the dowels

I started filling up my fixed blade drawer so for this i just cut a 2" X 4" down a bit and then used some black contact paper to hold the tray on top above the knives below since there isnt any dowels.

    Bottom shot

    Top tray

So after doing this one i started thinking about making some sliding trays
with 3 different levels. First i nailed some wood into ministeps as shown below:

i added some double sided tape to hold it in place (i need to do that with the fixed blade drawer as well now that i see the pics) and put some drawer liner on the bottom. this stuff keeps the knives from moving really well.

i built these trays with some 2 X 4s and some 3/8" MDF, glue and a brad gun. i went with butt joints instead of miters because i was doing this at the firehouse and the chop saw is not the best. i just added some paper underneath the drawer liner. if i can figure out how to do so, i would like to print in really big letters "Spyderco" or maybe "ladybug". i think that would look cool.

Then i added the second tray and them moved in the different positions

the whole thing was pretty simple so give it a try if you like the idea. i was going to drill holes with a fostner bit to hold marbles on the corners to act as ball bearings but the tray slide pretty easy so i dont think i need to. i might add some car wax to the wood to make it a bit easier to move. This lil project really opened alot of room for more knives...lol.

    Two things:

    1. Awesome set up.
    2. I do not have enough knives.

The things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. People are good; honor, courage, virtue mean everything; power and money mean nothing; good always triumphs over evil; true love never dies. A man should believe in those things, because they are worth believing in.

thanks everyone, i should get a shot of every drawer one day. one thing i would like to add on the project. i put some car wax on the wood and now if i open the drawer fast, the trays start sliding from the intertia. no marbles needed .

DAMN!!! Not only is your set up off the hook, but your collection is something to be envious of for sure! If you find yourself running out of space, than there is plenty of Spydie space in Arizona for your collection.

Man, I am feeling some small collection envy over here!

thanks again. Paul was nice enough to find me a big pic of the spydie logo. here is a quick shot of it under the liner. with a few more on there i bet it would look really nice. thanks again Paul!

The logo looks great! I wonder if it would "pop" even more if the whole liner underneath were black? I really like it.
