    What sharp looks like

I'm not in the same league as some of you master sharpeners but I've been really enjoying the Sharpmaker and a leather strop (diamond paste).

Try the same thing with phone book paper or newsprint. Once you can push cut through that, try it with toilet paper. Then go whittle some hair and pat yourself on the back.

We all talk about whittling hair but I never saw somebody whittle a hair spoon.

    hey computernut,
that looks so sharp i think i cut myself just looking at it.
i finally got a knife to whittle hair. took a lot of trial and error, but it was so satisfying to finally achieve that goal.

    Nice work, Computernut!

Toilet/tissue paper is strange stuff. Whether you can cleanly push cut through it depends on a lot of factors, not just the sharpness of your edge. TP doesn't like toothy edges at all, which causes the edge to hang on the thin fibers, causing the paper to tear. Some brands of TP contain more recycled materials that others, which makes their consistency much more uneven - again, possibly causing catching and tears.
