I've found the Izula unwrapped and unscaled is actually pleasant for hard cuts. Its even better with paracord and still remains pretty flat for EDC. I don't have any experience with the micarta scales on the Izula, but it will be bulkier for EDC. Get one, you won't be disappointed. I have beat the $#@* out of my 6 and it keeps on going with no problems.

Nice setup with the otter box. How much can you get in there?

The things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. People are good; honor, courage, virtue mean everything; power and money mean nothing; good always triumphs over evil; true love never dies. A man should believe in those things, because they are worth believing in.

Its actually quite a small one as you can tell from the izula, its the "2500" from memory, I dont have much in there its just kind of a last ditch kit, has a good amount of paracord, some sliprings, some tinder, the firesteel, the compass, maglite, a mcnet straw filter, some aquatabs, a whistle, maxpedition notepad and a pencil

thanks! yeah I came up with that one myself, the other side isint quite as neat unfortunately, as I just fed it around as many times as I could until it was super tight, then cut the ends and melted them flat so they wouldn't pull through, I was going to do the wrap with the fully concealed ends but put that in the too hard basket :P

I had one of the original Izula's for a while and I took the edge down pretty thin. Here's an old photo of it:

The blade steel held up well, and it took an extremely sharp edge. In fact this knife took one of the better edges out of any knife I've personally sharpened. I was very pleased with the performance of the steel. This isn't that acute of an angle so it never took damage doing typical knife things, like slicing cardboard, cutting food or carving some wood.

I didn't find the handle terribly comfortable, even after a cordwrap...but it wasn't bad, just not something I'd EDC. I'm tempted to order one of the new Izula 2's with the scales and larger handle.

Welcome to the forum. Yep, I'd say you are lost as to where you placed your "hello" post but no biggie. Which Spyderco do you have?

If you go to the "General Discussion" section and start a "New Thread" everyone will see it and many will welcome you.

Again, welcome and I hope you enjoy it here.

That's great. I just looked at that knife. Is there anything in the advertising about using tho pommel to break glass like car windows? It looks like it would. I've wondered a little about that on several or all models. It's not a determining factor but I'm curious.

Auto glass is some funny stuff. It really just depends on how you hit it and with what. I've seen guys literally bounce bricks off door glass and the window not break, but then you hit it with one of those spring loaded glass breakers and it shatters. Of course windshields are a different animal all together since they're safety glass and made to help keep you inside the car.

SHARPEN IT LIKE YOU LOVE IT, USE IT LIKE YOU HATE IT.

Yea dont bother with the windshield...it needs to be cut. The side windows will shatter, just hit them in the corners.

And yes thanks to this thread, I bought an Esee 6. Kinda hate the sheath though. Retention is way too tight, disengaging it is painful on the thumb and my fingernails actually get caught up sometime on the metal belt clip. Ill be looking for a custome sheath in the future.

From what I've read and seen on youtube video's, there are three versions of the pommel. The first is the "Standard" pointed, non-sharpened one. The second is a "Modified Pommel" that is rounded. The third has "MIL" in it's name. It has a pointed pommel that is sharpened. This one is considered the glass breaker one. It isn't carbide so I got the Standard one as I don't see myself using that function very often. Mind you I've sort of needed one once.

Have to agree. I was driving a vehicle that got hit by another and mine rolled onto it's roof. I had a nutdriver with me and started pounding on the side window and couldn't break the darn thing. Of course I was hitting it in the centre of the window, not in the corners where you're suppose to hit it.

I thought some of you ESEE fans might like to see this on eBay if you haven't already. It looks pretty sweet to me but I don't need one.

    PS edit:
I looked at this guy's store and he has some nice stuff.

What is the difference, or is there any in an ESEE knife and a Ka-Bar Becker / Esee Eskabar Fixed Blade Knife BK14 knife?

I'm asking about any difference in the knives based on the company. The description looks the same as far as steel and things like that. If shape, size, etc. is different I'm not concerned about that.

    Thanks for any info.

I don't know about Kbar's warranty but you can't beat ESEE. Steel is the same from what I can see. Personally if I'm going to buy a knofe like that, I'm going to beat it up so warranty will win everytime

When I joined the forum, I knew I was bound to buy a few Spyderco knives (which I certainly did).

But... other brands knives? I didn't see that one coming! And yet...

The Izula is a very nice little fixed blade : excellent balance, light weight and a razor edge blade with a good belly. I wrapped it with paracord even though I rather liked the bare handle : the knife is still very slim, but the handling is more comfortable now (my first attempt at paracord wrapping. I'll do better next time... and it works anyway).

Anyone else order the Candiru? I pre-ordered a black one and also ordered the orange G-10 scales.
