What steel is the cts-xhp similar to? I'm really loving the orange g10 on this one. Its almost reason enough to spend the couple extra bucks over a standard para to the get the orange.

    It's funny.
PM 2 is one of my favorite knives.
    CS is my favorite store.
Orange is maybe my favorite color, at least for certain things, shirts etc.
Yet, I find that I am not interested in this knife at all.
    Go figure.

I'm not sure if this should make me feel like an idiot for getting ready to pay $180 for the Smurf PM2 in M390 (which I've also pre-ordered).

Trying to think of a good nickname for this one... Smurf is perfect for the other one, but orange? I'm thinking...

    Carrot Para-Military2
    Pumpkin Para-Military2
    Sunkist Para-Military2
    Tang Para-Military2
    Home Depot Para-Military2
    Cheetos Para-Military2
    Basketball Para-Military2
    Mac & cheese Para-Military2
    Pre-rusted Para-Military2
    Garfield Para-Military2
    Motrin Para-Military2
    Traffic cone Para-Military2

OK, I just realized this probably classifies me as clinically insane...
Not insane brother, you just got bit by the SPYDER
    And, CTS-XHP... I will repeat the BOO-YAH!
Got the order in and the heads up thanks to F1

Oh and my vote: Lets refer to it as "Orange Crush"

Come on, you do not need to pay now

Thanks for the post, I'm in for 1; no need for more, have to save for the green from KW and already preordered the "Smurf".

How about Carrot top; thats the only character related name I can think of atm?

Stainless D2 sounds pretty darn good to me!!! I think I'm going to place my pre-order now. I'm just glad the money for the pre-order doesn't actually get taken out of my bank until this spring somtime. Thats what the CS website says anyways. I guess they just put a hold on the funds for a few days right now.

I think its a powdered D2 like CPM D2, but stainless.

I was very happy to see this steel on this knife. Its a great steel, but not super expensive.

Placed my pre-orders for some OJ Paras, very happy I waited for this one which is priced too nicely to pass up on.

Jeff was awesome enough to even email me a heads up this morning personally, and I immediately went to our spydie chat to let the guys know.

Would someone like to descirbe this steel alittle more indepth? It has a high carbon count, so is it easy to sharpen like carbon steels? Especially with stropping? Then someone said its like D2...but is it prone to chipping like D2 is?

Im probably going to pull the trigger on this one, especially with that great price. But would like to know alittle more about the steel.

XHP can be hardened to 65 HRC so it's definitely in the ZDP-189 range, and more like ZDP-189 than D2.

Like ZDP-189 it gets it's edge retention from the high hardness more so than the Carbide content, it's Chromium and Molybdenum (Small amount) carbides are doing the work.
If anyone can define it ... Ankerson can.

    Lightbulb Description

Here is a brief description from Carpenters website. I will try and leave out the "marketing" info. I think Ankerson might be able to chime in on the mater. He has a video of the Brown Military Sprint in CTS-XHP where, for all intensive purposes, it looks like a chainsaw... I exaggerate for effect of course

    Carpenter:

    "Carpenter CTS XHP Alloy

    (Nominal Analysis)
    1.60 C, 0.50 Mn, 0.40 Si, 16.00 Cr, 0.35 Ni, 0.80 Mo, 0.45 V, Bal. Fe

Air hardening, high carbon, high chromium, corrosion resistant alloy which can be described as either a high hardness Type 440C stainless steel or a corrosion resistant D2 tool steel. Possesses corrosion resistance equivalent to Type 440C stainless but can attain a maximum hardness of 64 HRC, approaching that of D2 tool steel."

People might want to note that the product page says this is an 800 piece run. 800 pieces is a pretty large Exclusive run.

I think the Orange Manix 2 was a 600 piece run.
