Tempur-pedic vs. Select Comfort...anyone have either?

Me and the Mrs. have had it with beds, and in a couple months we're gonna throw down on a serious bed, and these are the two that seem to get the most advertisement. We just spent a ton of money on this awesome memory foam pillow top bed and after not even 2 years it's absolutely horrible, so i don't wanna waste money on something that isn't going to last and give me a good nights sleep. I'm completely avoiding conventional spring mattresses at the moment. Does anyone have either of these beds?

Tempurpedic, for about a decade now.

    LOVE it.

We did try the Select Comfort, and didn't like it at all.

None of the above. Had a waterbed when i was a teen, my pitbull jumped on it and poked a hole in it while i was at school...came home and the floor of the house was literally rotted through and if not for the carpet i would have fallen through the floor.

I have had a Select Number for about 5 years now. It's not as smooth as I thought it would be, lol. The cushions are the same size of course but the foam support has let them move around a bit so instead of a perfectly homogenous bed it's a little lumpy.

Still comfy as heck but I would be tempted to go with something that has less moving parts. Either is way better than a mattress/box spring from allergens alone.

I'm definitely leaning towards the Tempurpedic, because i've even tried sleeping on as air mattress on top of our bed and it didn't help so the whole adjustable blow up bed thing seems deja vu to me.

I have a Select Number and I hate it! My wife loves the thing, hence why we still have it. My wife bought while I was out of the country (sneeky). There are many nights that I voluntarily sleep on the sofa for my own comfort.
I have been looking at the Tempurpedic line myself.
Did I mention that I don't like it?

Bought a high end Select Comfort, tried it for 2-3 months, never could get it right. Even after they sent us several new parts and pieces.

Looked at the Tempurpedic, but ended up with the Serta iComfort. I think it is superior to both, by a long shot. Worth looking into.

Spent a week at my brother's on a Select Number air mattress. I couldn't find a comfortable setting.

So just to update this thread, we got a Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme back in early Feb. My initial opinion of the bed was that it was extremely hard/firm, but we were coming from sleeping on a pillow top that was extremely soft and not at all supportive so i expected that. When you first lay on it, you don't get this impression that this is a super comfortable bed, even after you've sunk into it and even after a couple months of sleeping on it i still don't get in bed and think "oh man is this comfy". The strange part is there are no pressure points..it's not exactly like you feel weightless because you can feel the bed under you, there just aren't any hard spots like you feel in a spring mattress. I also read reviews saying it had a bad odor but i haven't noticed anything unusual. Despite all this seemingly not so good stuff, i have to admit i'm sleeping better than ever and i'm waking up with little or no back pain, which is amazing. I usually wake up in the same position i fell asleep in unless something wakes me up in my sleep and i turn over. I've spent 18 hours sleeping in this bed without getting out of it (extremely sick) and still woke up without back pain. We also got two of their Classic design Tempur-Pedic pillows to go with it, which i must say are amazing...don't get the bed without getting the pillows. I'd also recommend you do the 90 day in-home trial, because no matter what you do in a store you won't know how comfortable it is until you actually sleep in it.

I'm really glad you made this thread. I want to ditch our mattress asap. I wake up a lot of mornings with a sore back. If I sleep more than 7 hours on it then my back is done.

i chose a sealy memory foam mattress over temperpidic because it was firmer, had it for about 8 years and its as good as new still.

before that i spent $500 on regular pillow top went to crap within 3 years and sunk in, my back was hurting bigtime on it, spend the $ on memory foam and you wont regret it.

We scored a floor model. It was originally 3k just for the mattress but we got a grand off for the floor model. It was kept in a mattress cover so it was clean, and that may be why we never had the odor problems since it wasn't "new" and just out of the box. Also these kinds of mattresses need a little breaking in and i think that was taken care of for us lol. I also sweet talked $50 off two pillows.

I hear ya on the pillow top crapping out. About 2 years ago we spent a grand on a pillow top. It was amazing when it was new, you felt weightless laying on it, but it didn't last a year before it started sagging and only got worse as time went on. We shopped around and tried every memory foam set we could find, but our bad luck with the previous mattress made us leery of anything but "the best", or at least the big name in memory foam. I'm sure we could've spent half as much and got just as nice of a bed but i'm hoping this will take care of the bed issue for a solid decade or longer.

My wife and I have a tempurpedic knockoff from a local place. We tried the actual tempurpedic and the knockoff and loved the off brand. Saved a few hundred. Either way it was an upgrade from our old spring mattress.

We've got both actually. My wife's and my bed is a Select Comfort Number Bed - I love it and my wife hates it. My sleep number is 30, so I basically sleep in a trough on my side of the bed. Which sounds weird, but is extremely comfortable My wife's number is 75, so she is basically 7-8 inches above me on her side of the bed. Which brings up a whole 'nother topic about what to do on those "special" nights...but we won't talk about that here.

My oldest son saved up his money and bought a memory foam mattress (twin size, so not too spendy). I have to say that this is one.comfortable.bed. I slept in it one night and fell in love with the whole memory foam concept. Ended up buying the pillow for my bed and haven't regretted it.

The worst thing about a Tempurpedic bed is going on vacation or visiting and sleeping on a different bed!
