I believe it was stated before that the knife would cut through the leather. The Boltaron will be a fold over design, I think.
Maybe we'll see it next December, no rush, I have plenty of knives, I'll be okay.

Boltaron is another name for Concealex, a similar product and competitor to Kydex.

Not sure on the hande...looks more like G10 to me.

Yes, one of the reasons that Wilson's knives are so functional even with the very high wear steels he uses is that the edges are very thin, as in 0.005" thick. This allows even steels like S90 and 10V to be sharpened relatively quickly as there is very little material to remove. Of course the knife also has a very high level of cutting ability as well. If the knife didn't have this edge it really would not be a Wilson knife. The durability is very low with these edges of course, they do not respond well to abuse, but he is very clear they are cutting only, not chopping, prying, hacking, etc. .

Very nice to see a collaboration in any case, I have that exact model from him.

    Hi Cliff,

What steel did Phil use in yours? We have one in S90V and one in S110V.

Sal, I have a South Fork in S30V which is one of his later S30V blades. I have a Coyote Meadow in 10V, one of the first ones he did. He later raised the hardness significantly on the 10V blades. I also have a Chef's knife in 420 HC. Finally I have used a prototype fillet blade from Wilson in S90V. Quite frankly, you are one of, if not the only production company I think can do his blades justice in regards to edge geometry, initial sharpness, and attention to detail in heat treatment.

Just to add to my last post, I'm thinking something around a 3mm blade stock as a real slicer but not a flexible filet knife. This isn't a filet is it?

I have used mine as a fillet blade, but it is not flexible. Wilson's fillet blades have a much more pronounced taper. They are stiff enough so that they do not flex during cutting unless you want them to and in that case it is fairly easily.

Only two things I really need to know...

    ...Phil Wilson...and...S90V.

Would love to have seen a return to the original Bill Moran sheath or similar, but what they heck. Big thumbs up on this one.

Well, I preordered 2 at KC. I figure the worst that can happen is i dont really like them and then i can sell them at probably zero loss on the secondary market. I dont ahve any experience with Phil Wilson, but it looks to be right up my alley; slicers very thin behind the edge, with S90V.

Agreed, but plastic sheaths make sense on production knives. They're reasonably inexpensive, work reasonably well, and most users seem to like them. OTOH, inexpensive leather sheaths are garbage and a good adds considerably to the cost of the knife. So, from a practical standpoint, it's more cost effective to go with plastic and make folks like us find a good sheath maker.

Any word on how thick the blade is going to be?

Reviving this thread rather than start a new one and lose all this juicy gossip in the wash.

I've just placed a pre-order for the Southfork with KC, they claim a February 2012 release date. I'm not going to hold my breath, but has anyone got any idea of the accuracy of this claim?
Has Spyderco stated anything anywhere to have given KC that date?
