Para 2 lock gravity drop cut

I don't really know what to call this but i was playing with my Para 2, drooling over the pivot smoothness and i got to thinking about how many times i've seen people post about how their pivots are either tight or not smooth, or how they don't drop closed by gravity when you press the lock. So i got to playing around with it and made this little video.

A Lansky, sharpened up to a 2000 grit stone, polishing out just a micro bevel. I've also used it a few times since sharpening it, i think that's why it hung up a couple times. I'm gonna try the same thing with phone book paper but i can't find my phone book. Receipt paper is pretty fine stuff though.

That’s a pretty slick way to cut receipt paper. Can’t wait to get home to my Para2s to try it myself.

There's really nothing special about it...as long as your blade drops freely and it's sharp, it should work.

That vid will sell some Para 2s D

I'm quite a fan of the Compression lock and mine is ultra smooth as well. I can hold the knife in a horizontal position, actuate the lock with my index finger and the blade will fully seat like it's being reeled in on a line every time.

I don't think it would be much smoother if it ran on a bearing pivot. I should probably point out that i do lube mine with dry lube, but i'm confident it would have done this right out of the box.

Haha! Great vid bro. Awesome. Funny thing is on my Para I always have the want to tighten it as I think when it gets that loose it needs it. I'll get used to it.

Nice video. When my Para 2 is that loose, I have blade play. Also, I like a little opening and closing resistance.

The first Para 2 i had was like that...you couldn't tune out the blade play and still have the blade drop freely, but this one came out of the box that way.

Well, as luck would have it, a new phone book showed up on my door step today. It slices through like a warm knife through butter

Thanks for sharing the video. Mine have also worked well from the box. Gonna try that test on some paper tomorrow.

Nice Video, Evil D, now everyone with a Para 2 will be doing that (I just did) and if it doesn't cut the paper, out comes the sharpmaker and the ultra stones.

Hey man, do you think I should get the satin finish, or save up for the DLC version? I dont have a lot of money to spend, but I want a para 2. Also, should I get the black G-10 handle or the Digi-camo? I just wanna know what you like the most, and if its worth the 40 extra bucks for the DLC?
    Thanks!

Hey dude, where are you looking that the DLC one is $40 bucks more? That doesn't sound too good.

Wow extra $40? That doesn't sound right. I paid $10 more for mine at my local knife shop. I'd shop around more. I originally got the digicam because i wear khakis at work and i liked how the tan of the digicam blended in more with my pants, but i have to say i love the black a lot more. This is my first DLC knife and i'm loving it so far. If you can accept the fact that it's going to scratch eventually, then i'd go with DLC if you like the look of all black.

The odd thing i found was that the DLC really does draw less attention. I've noticed my coworkers don't seem phased when i pull it out and use it, whereas i definitely got some looks when i used the digicam/satin version. I think the black subdues the size a little, and i think psychologically, the shine of a blade is part of the intimidation of a knife, so being black i think it has more of a subdued presence.

    Amazon.com
    The price for a satin-black Para 2 is $115, $125 Digi-satin, $145 DLC-black, and $180 for Digi-DLC
Note that these were the prices at the time I looked, and it may or may not have changed since then.

Thats very kind of you, but I dont think I'll be able to get one for a while, as I have to pay bills and all. Maybe around February or March I'll let you know when I have the money. Thanks, and I want the Black-DLC version, I think it looks the coolest.

I'd keep shopping around...sales are hard to get right after Christmas so there may be some good deals out around tax time.
