    Smile Show your Patinas

    well, I seem to have gotten fond of patina's after making an M2 kiridashi and getting an Opinel, and I am soon to have a puurdy SB Caly. soooooooooo, hows about a thread on your patinas. I know I am not the only one who loves them .

    My opinel currently (slightly more patina'd now)

    Blah, as a convex knife fan and it being one of the things I think are great about Opinels...Im saddened by the second picture .


    But god damn I wish I had a blade that looked like that GB. Can anyone make a stonewashing how to write up and or video???????

    Well, I think it's time I show mine.






    I've had slight pitting on the Spyderco logo side of the blade. I tried to get it off with some Super metal polish but no luck. I haven't seen any orange oxidation so I'm not panicking - yet. I've been making sure to coat the blade with Tuf Glide every other week.

    I love that patina on the Sal logo side. I've cut a bunch of different foods with it but I think apples provide that really nice blue swirl patina.

    I LOVE A GOOD PATINA Its one of the reasons why Im starting to really like non stainless steels!

    Funny you didn't like the Mustard patina, thats the first example that looked good to me.
    ...I have no knives I keep in a safe but there are one or two that don't leave the house...

    forgive my me for being a noob, how did you GB owners get that finish on the m4 steel? arent you suppose to oil the blade and keep it clean to prevent that??? sorry in advance!

    His post says "forced patina". He probably used a ferric bath and then stonewashed. I only know because I am working on a few similar blade projects.
