So I bit the bullet and got one yesterday. This knife far surpasses my expectations. I will go on record and say this is a dagger in the heart of the other guys knife that rhymes with Riptilian. I now own both and I no longer have a need for the non Spydie. This one surpasses it on every level. Better ergo's, AMAZINGLY smooth to open. I dare say the action on this knife is better than the standard Manix . Also smooth solid lockup and FFG. Super light and fast. There is nothing bad to say about the Manix 2 Translucent Blue knife. HOME RUN Spyderco.

    I'll buy this when:

    1) It's available in a color I actually want to look at.

    2) It's available in SE.

    3) It's ... available.

I have a regular Manix2, and I love the way it opens; it's so smooth. But closing it is inconvenient. I find my fingers actually hurt after doing it a few times. Doing it with just my thumb is too difficult to be realistic. I can't even imagine using the Manix2 with any kind of gloves on other than super-thin nitrile rubber ones. This is why I like the Manix2 in a way, but never, ever carry it. It's closet fodder.

Is this one the same way? On second thought, never mind... I know everyone will say "I don't have any problem with any Manix*.

Why isn't the lock button blue? Totally unacceptable! Just joking. Where get knife?

I carry my Manix2 quite a bit and have to agree that the lock release is a little inconvenient needing my thumb and finger. But with a little use it became second nature and very easy to close. I used the clip at first to help hold the knife but now the clip is gone and I close it with no trouble at all. It's far more comfortable to use without a clip and I carry it in a very nice sheath I bought from a fellow forum folk. But at first, closing that thing was very,, um, very,,, can't think of a good word but I didn't like it at first.

Is that the only place they will be sold? Forever? On my way to check price.

Edit: The price isn't too bad given it's uniqueness. Looking forward to future views on toughness without liners. I forgot to look at weight. Gotta make another trip to the SFO, see ya.

Edit 2: Weight = wow. I bet that thing is blade heavy.

Not sure what the fuss is about. I have never seemed to mind the open or the close. I just use my finger and thumb on both sides of the handle and let gravity do the rest. Same with opening. Just pull the lever down and with a light flick, the thing is ready to go. Guess it's not for everyone. More for me.

I LOVE how my Manix M4 blade swings so freely but still locks up with no blade wobble in any direction. I did cut my finger a couple of times by letting the blade swing closed and left my fingers in the way. Definately the knife's fault. I tried to snug the pivot up a little and couldn't. The screws are tight and the thing is perfect.

I would rather have a tough to close knife than one that's tough to open. The Manix2 is pretty awesome in that department. In an average day (office) I probably use my knife 2 or 3 times at most. That means even a semi-stubborn CBBL is only a chore a few times.

The biggest annoyance with the CBBL, for me, is opening and closing it time after time (usually watching TV ). It's not a very realistic use of a folder though as in this case it's probably smarter to just keep it open and put it on your work desk.

I am a middle-aged man with the hands of an 8-year-old girl... And I've no doubt they're much weaker than yours as well. That's probably the main reason. Maybe I need to use those springy hand strengtheners or something.

I'm with you F1, small weak hands myself and only a touch over 30.

It's a 2-hand close for me. I *can* do it with 1 but it's more of a circus feat of strength than practical. Shaking, grunting, etc. Lol.

Yes, fantastic knife and not blade heavy at all. I bought mine second-hand on BF.

It can be closed one handed, I do it all day. The bottom of the handle tucks into the bottom of the palm of my hand, thumb and forefinger on the lock. Pull the lock back and give a little flick and the blade comes down. I don't have a regular Manix so I don't know if this is easier to do because of the light weight, but it is very easy and convenient to close one-handed once you get used to it.

I got mine last week and it's all I thought it would be from handling the excellent prototype. One thing that bothered me was the thick and not-so-sharp edge. A little work on the Sharpmaker fixed that.

That's weird, the one I just bought the other day as a present for a friend may have been the sharpest Spydie I've received out of 30 or so diff knives. BD1 will def. hold a hair shaving edge.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Of course a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is probably worth ten thousand.

Here is a video of opening and closing the Manix 2 Blue Lightweight one-handed:

Of course it can be opened/closed with one hand. (Someone has been skipping posts here.) The problem is when you have small and/or weak hands like some of us unlucky people... I have returned my M2 so no problems for me anymore.

I have had this knife for a while now and it is awesome. One hand opening did take a while to get use to but very doable. Very lightweight, Ergonomic, visually appealing. I love it.

Is Spyderco trying to put themselves out of business? If you've got this knife ,you don't need any of the rest.

This looks like another spydie to add to the list. I have played with a buddies and sure liked it a lot. Once I add a few more sprints to the knife drawer I will add one of these.
