Lightbulb Another E-Cig or "Nicotine Inhaler" Post

I saw and responded to Doc's post last year but I didn't want to bring back a zombie thread (Lord knows we have enough of those regularly). So my topic is:

The standard E-Cigarette, particularly the inexpensive Chinese all-metal designs, are an effective less-than-lethal or even lethal item that would be handy in any clever person's EDC.

    Discuss.

(I already have some opinions on the matter, just wanted to see what ya'll thought)

I wouldn't use a random chinese metal heating element for a lightbulb let alone my vaporization of lung-entering inhalables. Enjoy the copper/aluminum coating on your lung tissue if you use these. No good.

Low-vapor-pressure ceramics are the only way to go unless you can get a metal like tungsten with an incredibly low vapor pressure at high temperature. Silicon Carbide also works well.

Vaporizers work well for any inhaled media, just make sure that the machine isn't kicking off poison in the process. Plastic components and paints outgas like mad.

this one appears to be nearly solid steel. on the outside there is a sticker that looks like a cigarette filter (removed now) and the longer whitish part also appears to be steel with some kind of enamel paint on it (I know it could have lead but this part is *not* heated) - i will try to tear one of these down to examine it for future reference.. But this post was not about its usefulness as a nicotine delivery or cessation agent, it was tactical use. It's a fairly solid hunk of mostly steel. among other things.

Kris, I'll freely admit that I'm probably the last person who should be answering this, but unless those e-cigs are considerably longer than a conventional cigarette, I can't see them being anywhere near as useful for SD as something like my Cross Townsend ballpoint. Not to mention that, unless you're a smoker or have recently quit, there'd still be the possibility, no matter how remote, of your motives for having carrying it being questioned if you used it defensively. The Cross, on the other hand, is a darn fine writing instrument, and one not stigmatized with the "tactical pen" label. There are probably a bunch of less expensive and similarly robust steel pens too.

I use mine for defense of myself and others during air travel. Without them I would likely choke someone.
