    Sharpening utility blades?

Hi everyone, let me explain my situation. I've been sharpening utility blades and have found that after several sharpenings, they won't take an edge. No matter how much I strop and sharpen they won't become sharp! Has anyone else had a similar experience? If you haven't, which brand do you use and roughly how many times has said utility blade been sharpened?

I'm fairly confident it's not a problem with my sharpening technique. I'm able to get new or slightly used utility blades sharper than when they came from the factory after some time on the white stones of the SM and a bit of stropping.

I wonder if the utility blade makers use a layered or plated method of construction.

Whichever one is cheaper and easier to produce is likely your answer. I will say that I've taken a look under my 10x loupe and didn't see any layering of metals. However, because I'm not familiar with what the plated method is, I'll reserve my opinions.

I don't think most utility blade are layered, I sharpen the serrated utility blade on my sharpmaker and it works fine.
