    Maxpedition Sheath/Pouch for Bear Spray?

Anyone here know which Maxpedition pouch or sheath would best fit a canister of bear spray?

I'm looking for something that would fit the canister snugly, and do a good job of keeping it secure on my waist, even if I'm doing a lot of moving around.

I know that I could just throw it in a bag, but I'm looking for a more minimal sheath style carry system.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I suppose that depends... is your bearspray chambered in .44 Magnum, or 500 S&W?

Couldn't resist, sorry, how big is the canister?

Jordan Was Thinking the same....and .45-70....Why not just feed the bear...this way you won't need the canister...Doc

Sports Chalet and the REI in my area sells a bear spray holster. Perhaps you can check that out.

my first choice would be to avoid the bear. my second choice -- deter the bear (bear spray). third and final choice would be to use a firearm.

doc's right -- i usually take a .45-70 carbine on longer hikes. i figure i can shoot it more accurately in a high stress situation than a massive handgun.

a huge handgun could really do a lot of damage... when i miss, and the bear shoves it up my behind!

bear spray canister is maybe 1.5" in diameter. come to think of it, i've seen some bear spray holsters (usually sold with the more expensive brand of bear spray). however, that's not as cool as maxpedition.

That's pretty small... have you checked out their flashlight holsters? I bet some of those could do the job.

Wearing a large jingle bell works well to keep bears away(no joke). I love that those cans of bear-spray have money back guarantees! Hard to imagine macing a bear, having it fail and still being able to return it!

Heh, thats actually what the Rangers in New Mexico told me the first time I backpacked far enough north to count as Black Bear country, make lots of noise and they'll just avoid you. That and practice good fieldcraft... keep trash and food off the ground and away from the campsight, etc. etc.

that is true of black bear, unless there is food (fish) around, or you are near noisy water that blocks the sound of your jingle bells.... which is pretty much the case every time i've ever encountered a bear.

    Hey clovisc,

I have a couple of bags, pouches and sheaths from Maxpedition including 2 of their 4" flashlight sheaths. Note that there is another one which is 5" tall and has the same width (but I have not in my possession)!!!

I do not have any bear maze/spray at hand so I threw in my "Turbo booster" I use every morning to "boost" my face!

The bottle is a little bit wider in diameter than 1.5" and is about 5.5" tall.

Even that the bottle is taller than the actual sheath it still can be closed and secured with the large amount of velcro on the front.
So depending on the bear spray's bottle tallness you got you should be able to figure out if one of the sheaths sizes would fit your needs!
If not there is also the Maxpedition Universal flashlight/baton sheath that is specially made for Baton/Large Flashlight/ Peperspray carry and can be adjusted in width!
    Hope it helped!

    Have a nice day
    Michael
