    Russel kitchen knives?

Can anyone tell me anything about these knives? I've had one for years, it was my brothers and he lived with me about 10 years ago and left it with me. It says "U.S.A. Russel Stain Free High Carbon D4-8" on the blade and the "Don't Tread on Me" logo with the rattlesnake.

The edge is WRECKED. I mean it's dull like a false edge. Otherwise it seems like a pretty nice knife.

Pic's? Would love to see the snake logo. And we all know what do with a dull knife... Brake out the sharpmaker

    I don't own a Sharpmaker

But i did put it on my Lansky and put a damn nice edge on it. It'll glide through phone book paper now with ease even after dicing 3 tomatoes and an onion on a cutting board.

I know this knife is at least 20 years old just by the date that it came into my brother's possession. He got it from a guy he lived with when i was about 11 years old and i'm 31 now.

Probably made by the company now known as Dexter-Russell. The R with the arrow through it in Russell was/is one of their trademarks and the tang design looks similar to some of their current offerings.

Well as you can see it has a billion scratches on it...it gets used almost exclusively in our kitchen whenever a large knife is needed. For being "high carbon" i've never had any issues with rust, and it gets ran through the dishwasher routinely.

    Evil D,
If you really like the knife for kitchen use and want it to last don't run it through the dishwasher. The metal will be fine but the machine does a job on wooden handles in the long run especially because of the heat. I've got an old Dexter that I love because it's high carbon and I just hand wash quickly after use and air dry. Mine also has a great patina and doesn't shine like yours does. Take care

I don't know if they're related or noy, but my Dexter Russell 10" chef's knife is a serious workhorse. I sharpen on a stone about once a year and steel it always after use. It gets used a lot in the kitchen where I work. The only complaint I have is the stupid hunk of metal at the back of the blade - makes for miserable sharpening because you have to grind more in that area to keep the curve needed in a chef's knife. It holds an edge and has great balance.

    - best wishes, Jazz.
