Wow Ted, really looks nice. How tight can you get the pivot without wrecking the wood?

Good question, Jazz. I tweaked it several different ways this afternoon as I was trying to get it fine-tuned. Right now it is tight enough to give it a good action without being so loose it is unsafe - but it definitely lacks the "snap" action that the G10 UKPKs have. I am going to order some larger diameter phosphor bronze washers and try them out. This will give a larger bearing surface between the blade and the relatively soft wood. This knife is going to be an EDC for me - but not a "hard use knife" (I hate that term! ) I'll probably end up fiddling around with it over time.

I'm really loving the light weight and how it slips into my pocket. The wood also feels silky smooth and warm to the touch. Nothing like natural materials...

I'd love to see it after you put them on, and hear your opinion. I've though of this mod, but wondered about that. Thanks for sharing your awesome work.
    - best wishes, Jazz.

Completely smoothed out the edges of my Caly 3 CF ZDP 189's handle. Then I stonewashed the blade and thinned the edge. Oh, momma, is it nice to feel, and I love how the blade looks now - the 420 J2 scratches if you look at it (the reason I stonewashed it) and the ZDP really resists scratches, so the effect is awesome. I highly recommend this mod...

    Thanks for lookin'.
    - best wishes, Jazz.

Jazz, I love the stonewash as well as the edge finishing. I have often wanted to try that because I suspected the ZDP's resistance would be as you discovered it. What grit(s) did you use on the CF scales?

Travis - Looks like a slicer!

Landon - Might be my favorite mod yet. It surprised me. I used first 400, then 600 under running water. Didn't want it too shiny. I can't believe how good it feels now. Maybe I need the 3.5 to match.
    - best wishes, Jazz.

I have also heard a 36" radius or 42" radius platen can work.

If you're at all familiar with Michael Morris, it looks like in his shop he literally made a giant wheel out of wood and uses it for his hollow grinds. Here's a series of videos of him making a custom knife out of a file (all his knives are made from files) and in the second video at 2:15 he stops his grinder and you can clearly see the wheel is just a big round piece of wood.

I can only embed one video so I did the one showing his wheel.

I've been through emails talking with him about having one made, I just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
