My caly had an uneven primary grind from factory, resulting in a wavy edge, It didnt bother me until I decided I wanted a steeper back bevel last night

Ok well this got on my nerves last night and i thought, " polish and live with it, or test my grinding skills on my exotic irreplaceable knife"

I thought to myself, " if I screw it up, ill get a pro to do it"

Freaking AWESOME! i LOVE my stonewash and it is THIN behind the edge , id tell you thickness but my vernier needs batteries

It is the hardest steel ive reground but it wasnt too bad. I definitely need new belts though (or a "good grinder") I left it at worn 80grit cause the patina it forms will hide most scratches

The stonewash was done with vinegar and stones, sick results IMO

Its finished to 0.3 microns at 13dps

    Buck Strider "the Yellow Frankenstrider"
Tan FRN 889 frame. 882 Tarani ATS-34 blade, pivot, and pocket clip.
Drilled put the stock pins/standoffs, and changed out the tan scales to a Yellow w/Black liners G-10.
Changed the oddball sized pivot bushings to center the blade at the pivot. This also thinned the knife by .020", and normalized the stock lock up over reach.
New standoffs (from .205" to .185") and 4-40 buttonhead screws, T-9 TORX.
Moved clip position for a lower ride. Drilled and tapped for the same 4-40 screw size.
Knife can now be taken apart with one driver.

How'd you do that, and how'd you get the gold color, or is that an illusion? Looks nice.

    - best wishes, Jazz.

The gold is an illusion I used one of those basic engravers that vibrates I just bought this knife yesterday and this is the second "picture" I've ever engraved. I was going to do it on the clip because if I messed up i could order a new one but said why not try it on the blade it would look better if it were bigger. Then after doing the outline I just passed the engraver back and forth to "shade" it.

This is sort of related to that last pic, but i'm a car guy when i'm not playing with knives or working. A few years ago i restored some really old school Mickey Thompson valve covers that had a big flat machined spot on the top. I played around with different ways to get the machined finish back in them, but in the end i used an orbital sander and used a really funky circular motion going against the motion of the orbital, and it left the craziest machined finish in the aluminum. I've often wondered how that would look on SS knife scales.
