    Been using my black UKPK a bit lately, and finally had enough of it being hard to open. I sharpened the hole and did the David Lowry cutout or bevel to make the hole easier to access. I still have to smooth it out a bit, but it works great. It should seriously be on the knives from the factory. I did it under running water to save my lungs...

    - best wishes, Jazz.

    Nice pics. I hope it works, too. I do it with rock sanding and there's no dust, so...? I heard someone mention it on the forum, but was still scared to try it. Well, I did it and hope I'm fine.

    - best wishes, Jazz.

    New Pride scales

    I purchased a Pride 3 months ago. NIB. The seller threw in a set of scuptured blue G-10 scales for a pride.
    I didn't want to touch my NIB, so I went looking for a used one in good shape to mount the scales on.
    I finally, after 2 months, found a used Pride (the flag had a stain) for $30.00 shipped to me.
    I now have $80.00 invested in the two Prides.
    Here is the new one with the scales

    Here is the used one with the scales mounted. Shown next to my dyed Urban Wharncliff.

    What do you guys think?

    RoBoTech - I think that is one cute knife with the blue scales. Looks nice and grippy, too. I like it. Thanks for sharing.

    Had to post a couple of pics since I refined the opening hole ramp. Smooth as silk, and works so nicely...

    @pyrite that looks amazing!

    I've just started modding my Persistence with some cheapo plywood scales. The second scale is in the making and they'll probably be varnished, if I'm bothered enough to do it before making the planned solid wood scales.

    I'll update when they're finished probably.

    My first Spyderco mod is not pretty at all, but here it is - a shorty, and slightly modified MT11 M390 mule (standard mule on bottom for comparison:

    Why did you use plywood? That's pine most likely, which is a softwood. Softwoods are pretty much usless for wood crafts... Even some scrap cherry would have been better. It looks ok, but if you have noticed it chipping or being difficult to work that is why.

    I wanted to get a quick prototype to screw up on and find out how to embed the screws and what not. It is indeed very soft and it bends too, so it sucks to use normally. Now I'm using some sold mahogany-like wood, which works a lot better. At the same time I'm also trying leather as scales (results pending).
