Thanks! Yeah, I saw the new Tenacious and that's really what inspired me to Duracoat the knife. I wanted to make it just a good all around carry knife. The deployment is still perfection. I did not coat the phosphor bronze bushings, so it was still fast when I reassembled it. There was a small problem with the frame lock fully engaging due to the added thickness of the Duracoat, but after opening the knife a few times, the coating wore away and the problem fixed itself.

    Buck Vantage

While waiting for parts to finish my PPT, I needed a project.
I am also working on a Desert Sand Chinook, and waiting parts for it, too.
Anyway, here is a Buck Vantage pro I customized for myself. A S30V blade, BOS (pronounced boss) heat treatment and made in America.
I ground a swoop into the top to the butt. Then ground some style (with an "S") into the butt.
Tossed the back spacer, added standoffs and a new lowride clip. Then put some nice coarse textured Orange G-10.
Cut the weight from 4OZ to 3.4 oz. And now it fits my hand, perfectly.
Definitely a user for me as I am sure no one else would want it.

Here is the very one I purchase used from a knife forum member for $35.00 shipped.

And here is what I did to it.

    Desert Sand Chinook 3

This one has ALL the steel, including screws, into a Ferric Chloride etch, then stonewashed. Just pivot points and factory etchings were saved.
Then I added fine weave Desert Sand G-10 scales and a lowride Titanium clip. The clip just has it's original bead blast finish.
I did drill the clip holes for a left side, tip up carry. I usually don't. I had to oblong the right side clip holes a bit as the holes were just a hair off after mounting the scale. It happens. May recut a new scale because of it, but it's unseen as long as the clip stays on the right side. The holes are drilled for a stock Chinook 3 clip, but the Titanium clip fits that pattern.

    Thumbs up

    hey robo,
all your mods are very impressive!
    the scales look great.
and the blade finish you do is awesome.
my only criticism would be the unetched spots around the bug and lettering. if you could find a way to mask these areas with a more "finished" look, it would only add to the appeal.
i have no experience with this, so i can't really offer any suggestions other than squaring up the mask somehow, or following the outline of the bug.
the knives still look cool as hell!
keep doing what your doing and keep letting us see your results.

Actually, I am looking into that. As users. it doesn't matter much, but for an occasional carry or display piece, I do need to cut some stencils for that.
Not that just letting them go is bad. My Gendura X, which I carry a lot, has no factory etchings, at all.
We'll see. I have run out of project knives and I am looking at some others right now.
Can only carry 3-4 at a time, dontcha know.

Reblasted handles and clip, etched and tumbled blade. Wish I still had it.

My latest mod is replacing the clip on my EDC PM2 with a Gavin Hawk Ti lever clip:

The clip incorporates a lever that when pressed, lifts the end of the clip, so that it does not rub the pants' pocket as you get the knife in/out of the pocket, yet provides a very strong grip in its "relaxed" state keeping the knife in place.

I will be the first one to admit that the finish/style does not go well with the overall finish of the PM2 - remember it is a generic part designed to work with several knives.

This is my EDC, so I am purely going after the function, and this works extremely well. These go for $25 including shipping, and you order them by sending an email directly to Gavin Hawk.

Usually Spydercos are designed with the idea of function over form so I think it's still pretty suitable If I really see it as an excuse to wear my knives clipped, I'll probably try one.

I have pimped out my Stretch.
Scales were changed to coarse Orange G-10. Upgraded scale screws to black T-8 TORX, and put on a new black clip to match the black back spacer.
This is one of my nicest customs. Blade centered, action smooth, and just gorgeous. A one of a kind.
