Pim
oh yeah I took a byrd raven outside once to till some soil and the edge became
duller that the edge of a spoon. You've more guts than I do taking a Para out

Use your blades in the kitchen, it's great bonding time!
In high school, I read a short story (possibly a Steinbeck) about a boy who kept his dead father's (I think) knife sharp by stabbing it into the dirt. I don't remember too much else about it, but that part always stuck with me because it seemed like such a strange idea, and I wondered if there could somehow be some truth in it.
i'm curious, can someone explain why dirt dulls the blade?
It's easy enough to Google it, but dirt contains abrasives that dulls chain saw chains, knives, pruning saws etc etc. imho it seems shaving sharp knives might dull rather quickly on account of the extremely thin cutting edge even if it is a very hard metal.
The culprit is quartz in the dirt, that will dull a blade fast...
Very interesting thread..
I never thought dirt could be so bad for a knife lol good to know though
