    Cancer Awareness Mini-Grip Giveaway

Hi folks. For personal reasons, I've decided that I would like to offer up my Benchmade Cancer Awareness Mini-Griptilian.

    The knife:

It is a model 556-PNK plain edge, thumbstud opener pink Mini-Grip, and is in excellent shape. It's only been used to cut a bit of tape and open a few plastic bags. I've run it across my white stones at 30 degrees a handful of times and the pocket clip shows some typical wear from loving EDC. Other than that, it's basically like-new, and will be sent out in the original box.

    The giveaway:

I am only asking two things of anyone who wants to participate in this giveaway, but they are very important to me so I hope they are taken seriously.

-First and foremost, I would truly like this knife to go to someone for whom cancer awareness is extremely meaningful, and who will carry this knife regularly so that it may help spread the message to others. Please do not participate if you simply want a novelty item that will sit in a drawer or safe, or are just hoping to win a free knife.

-Second, I ask only that the winner "pays it forward" in whatever way he or she sees fit. The world would be a better place if we were all a bit kinder to others, so I would really appreciate knowing that the person who receives this knife makes an effort to improve the life of another in some way.

    The rules:

The giveaway ends on Saturday (11/5) at midnight EST. To enter, please read my two requests first, then post your guess of my mom's birthday in the form of mm/dd. The battle she lost with cancer is one of the biggest reasons why this cause is so important to me, and why I'm asking a bit more from folks who enter this giveaway. Unfortunately, I won't be able to ship outside the U.S., so please keep that in mind before entering.

    The winner:

Whoever comes closest to guessing her correct birthday will receive the knife. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the person who posted earlier.

To anyone currently fighting cancer, never stop and never give up hope.

I didn't. Fought throat cancer and had a HUGE surgery that ended up taking my tonsils and some other stuff as well.

I was so pissed off when I found out I had a tumour. Pissed insn't the word. I was enraged. Newborn on the way, lost my Mother a few years earlier, and I do not smoke.

Had surgery a month after my little guy was born. The nurses were bitches! The only silver lining is that all the surgery was done inside, no external cutting or scarring.

    My guess, 12/05 as well.

This is a very meaningful giveaway, Padawan.

    I'll guess 12/13, my mother's birthday.

My mother doesn't have cancer, but I have a friend in her early 30's, who is fighting it now. An old friend of my fiance is struggling with it now. Another old friend of my fiance just recently flew to be with her ex-daughter-in-law, who is only expected to have a few more days because of cancer. There are just far too many people in our lives who are dealing with it right now.

This is a sidebar, but speaking of 'paying it forward'; if you get the chance to see the TV special, 'CNN heroes', it deals with honoring some very determined people who have found very meaningful ways to help other people.

I won't guess, but this is a great thing you're doing and something we all need to be aware of and fight for.

A very close friend of mine was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. She's a fighter and is trying really hard to keep her spirits up. She just turned 22.

I think that this is a great giveaway too. I won't guess either, because I would rather have it go to somebody who really deserves it or can gift it in a meaningful way, but my cousin was recently diagnosed with leukemia & is currently undergoing chemo for it.

Have couple of people in mind. But, no matter who wins, this is about the cause, not anything else. And that's what matters.

Just wish there was no such grim cause for this kind of giveaways.

I'm not participating but wanted to say that my mother and her twin sister fought cancer for over a decade before succumbing to it. My father has had two types and is doing well now at 79.

I had the choice of brain surgery or radiation treatments for a benign brain tumor. When I had the radiation, few chose it because of the increased probability of brain cancer. The chance of contracting brain cancer from the radiation was about the same as the the chance of dying on the operating table during brain surgery. Most patients chose surgery, apparently they'd rather die now than get cancer in the future; that's how frightening cancer is.

Very thoughtful thing you are doing. My guess is 12/24 which is my mothers birthday. I know who I would give the knife to. My ex boss Amy has been fighting breast cancer for the last 4 years. She went in for a routine breast exam and was given a clean bill of health in August. In October she found a 2 mm lump in her breast on a self exam. The doctors never told her that because she had what they call "dense" breast fiber that she would be more likely to have a problem not show up on a mammogram.

She is a strong spirit and I just got through doing the Susan Koman run in her honor. She's quite a brave lady.

    I will guess Dec 7th.

If I should win, I am giving the knife to one of two friends--one a breast cancer survivor, and the other is currently battling metastatic colon cancer.

Thank you to everyone who has responded, and my thoughts are with you and those you know who have been affected by this disease.

There are still a few hours left if anyone else would like to participate.

I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathies to those of you here who have lost someone to cancer, and my greatest support to those who are currently battling the disease.

FIMS, as a fellow survivor, I can echo some of your sentiments, and it's terrific to know that you're still here with us.

I honestly wish I had enough of these knives to pass along to each and every one of you. My mom's birthday was 2/23, which makes Dr. Snubnose the winner. If you can message me with your information, I'll get it packed up and sent out for you.

KP, since you were the least close guess, I have a small token I'd like to send out to you also, so please let me know your information as well.

    Thank you, everyone.
