Temperance 2 vs Randall Model #1

Hey everybody, first post here. I've always liked knives since my cub scout days, and have some Buck folders (112, 110) and a Buck fixed blade #120 (discontinued). I was planning on buying a spyderco folder since I handled a dragonfly, but then became entranced by their fixed blades, and then noticed spyderco sold Randalls, and then did some research on them, and...

Pow! I bought a new Randall Model #1-7" from a dealer. Impluse buy. It's sooo nice I'm afraid to use it. It's a carbon steel/leather handle jobber. Really, really nice. Absurdly nice. ~$540.

So, the second-thought demon is whispering in my ear. Does a slightly overweight web designer really deserve this knife? Should I sell it and get a Temperance 2 and pocket $350?

I'm wondering if anyone here can give me a comparison between the Temperance 2 and the Randall #1. For instance, my Randall balances right on the hilt. It's pretty weighty when I swing it. I can choke right up on it (can you do that on the Temperance, btw? It looks like you might). This is the type of comments I'm looking for.

Hey carbon, first off, welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, I do not have a Randall or a Temp II, but there are many threads dedicated to the Temp II. Here are a couple.

You may have more luck in the "General Discussion" if you want to have answers to some of the Temp II questions you may have. I hope those two threads gave you some help.

I've never handled a Randall so I don't know what the fuss is about the knife, obviously they are decent if your paying $500+ for it. Personally I think the Randalls look old fashion and the Temperance is slightly tatical looking, I don't think you can really compare them as it is personal preferance. I like the look of the Temperance far more then the Randall so I would probably go that way. You are really the only one that can decide.

Choking up on the Temperance II should be approache with extreme caution. The availble area for your index finger in that grip is only about 1/2" long, and there is absolutely nothing to protect your index finger from the razor-sharp edge. I can do it as long as I don't squeeze the grip. If I do, I get bit.

I can't help with the comparison. Randalls are nice, but they aren't that nice. I'd get a pair of T IIs and have a few bucks left over.

Thanks yablanowitz for the choking-up note. I think the only thing that would solve it for me is to order a T2 and compare. Thanks everyone.

    I have a Temperance 2, so I'm a little biased. I would get the Temp 2.
