Ban on easy to open knives

That is what we are facing here in the Netherlands.

Later this year, a change in the ''Law, weapons and ammo'', will become in effect.
Announced already was a total ban on Balisongs, automatics and OTF's, as the major issue of this change.

But, a member of the Dutch knifeforum is a LEO and a bit higher up the ranks.
And he told us that the new version of this law will also contain a ban on carrying knives, in public, that are easy to open.

Most likely, this means all one hand openers, no matter size or lock.
No need to explain, we are talking about every Spyderco folder around, apart from the DKPN.

So, Golden, we have a problem.

That sucks so bad that there aren't anywords to say how bad that sucks (does that make any sense?)

When guns and knives are outlawed, the only ones who'll have them will be outlaws.

Sounds like you need a spyderco hole filler that you can attach to your knives to limit the use of one handed opening. That isn't to say that the law doesn't suck.

I can't sleep due to personal stuff.
Being pessimistic lately i already anticipated this to happen after german law changes.
I'f i got the money and would be a bit younger i would leave the netherlands . I feel like a alien in my own country, for more then a decade already..........;(

Nothing left from the dutch mentality which ranked us high in older days...

That is very sad to hear. 'Easy to open' sounds very unclear and arbitrary (like many Canadian laws) . I wonder if tightening pivot screws would help.

So if a dutch cop sees a knife clip on you do they ask you to pull it out and show? I could be walking around with a 6inch ti-lite in my pocket and no one would have ever known up to this point.

I already was unclipping knives in public places so not detectable.. Or IWB fixed blades...

Seems we are restricted to traditional slipjoints without blade openers like spyderhole or thumbstuds...

Any conformation updates on this crazy lawchange from dutch forum mates would be appreciated..

    Piet; what are OTF's?

Yep, Out The Front, either spring powered or gravity.

Guess that pretty soon, beds will be outlawed too.
Statistics unveil that most people die in one of them.

Well guys, it's about time I guess for Spyderco to remake the Jess Horns again in a cheaper version. Both plain and serrated.

    Man, this really sucks!!!

Keep carrying my SS Cricket/SE anyway. I hope this knife won't be seen as a threat by "Mr. Police officer"

Has there been an escalation in knife crime in the Netherlands or is this just arbitrary bull****? Just curious behind the reasoning.

I recall much different days there. When I was stationed in Germany in 1980ish I had a Bad Tolz stationed SF buddy run up there for the weekend and come back with two FN FAL s , and two CZ75's, which were then unavailable in the states. Those were much different times. Joe

Rather much stabbings as of lately.

For the great part committed by angry youngsters

And of course it's easier for the gouvernment to put a ban on certain knives than try to punish the man behind the knife

Yes we do see an increasing number of stabbing incidents.
Politicians do not dare to adress the troublemakers, so now the knives are the blame.
