    STRetched-R2

Couple years ago started toying with the idea of modifying an R2's handle to give it the same basis shape in the grip area as the Stretch. Finally got around to sending one, and some curly Koa, off to STR earlier this year and just got her back today. First, here's a "before" shot comparing the R2 with the Stretch...

And one comparing the STR customized RG with my Lignum Vitae Stretch, also customized by STR...

Some more shots of the knife. Tip was also modified to an acute "splinter picker" point...

Haven't really had a chance to use it much, but it feels great in my hand.

Deacon....The wood on that knife is gorgeous and the blade looks awesome....I know thats a custom, but it got me to thinking after a 20 year hiatus on knife collecting here, nobody really offers nice wood scales on a production knife any more....It was all wood and bolsters back then.....John
...Far more ..... than i need
But no where near as many as I want......

With the wood there it reminds me very much of the Caly Jr except larger. Looks great!

looks nice Paul, I hope that this means Steve got his health back too. let us know if this knife is worthy enough to make a new indent in that blue jeans pocket of yours.

It's like the middle brother of the Caly family, I love it!!!

Very nice conversion Paul. Whats the origin of Koa wood? I see the tip was a bit reground, right? Does this one gonna replace the current EDC setup?

    Congrats Paul,
Great knife. I like "splinter picker" more than original and what can feels better wood in the hand? Also it is the winner in the looks department.
    Thank you for sharing.

the R2 is one of my favorite spyderco designs... and this is definitely the coolest R2 i've seen! kinda in between the big caly, and the caly jr.

    maybe one day, an R3?

Very nice, Paul and STR - thanks for sharing. You know, it would be nice to have at least one beautiful wood-handled knife. How does that hold up to scratches and dings in your back pocket?

    - best wishes, Jazz.
