    fixing a broken blade

My dad gave me this knife a few years ago. I was doing something I shouldn't have been with the knife and it broke. Well as you can see, a little more than the tip of the blade broke off. The back of the blade says it's 4435 imperial stainless. Normally I would call it a loss, but the knife is 40+ years old and was my grandfather's at one point. So it has sentimental value. I was wondering if anyone knows someone who could "reprofile" the blade for me. Thank's in advance!

How does the point sit when the knife is closed? If it is below the handle, it shouldn't be too hard to reshape. If the point is too far out to correct by grinding down the kick, the blade would have to be reshaped from the spine, which would mean either a new shape (modified wharncliff or sheepsfoot) or grinding a new clip and possibly a new swedge.

I didn't think of that! The tip sit's almost flush with the handle. A fingernail might be able get under it, but the tang/spine of the blade behind it rests about a 1/16" above the broken blade. I see the concern, blade tip above the handle would not be a good idea.

With the tip that close, grinding a tiny bit off the kick would drop the point into the handle without making the nail nick inaccessible. The point can easily be reshaped from the edge side. I'm no expert, but I've done more extensive work than that on my own knives. PM me if you don't want to try it yourself.
