Less New blades coming In I guess I finally beat it

Hey guys hope all is copacetic

I think I finally have beat this so called disease
In a few days I will be getting rid of a lot of my knives, because I just don't use em and probably never will.

After taking a look at my current EDC it just can not be beat; my buying new knives has slowed down to a stand still compared to last year and the beginning of this year.

    Current EDC is
    Large Regular Sebenza Bg42
    Almite SE Cricket
    Microtech Credit card knife
Spyderco Jester with light on Key chain

    Work EDC is
    Spyderco Wave Delica
    Almite SE Cricket
    Microtech Credit card knife
Spyderco Jester with light on Key chain

I have pretty much found perfection in the above at this moment and I keep em all in front of my computer and they really do stop me from buying many knives since there aren't really any that compare to the above. I have a Xm-18 coming a few ansos and a DDR and a few R.J martins, but the above have really slowed my knife buying to a stand still.

A Sebenza and a Spyderco really go hand in hand.

Have any of your knives or edc combos brought your collection or accumulating to a stand still, because they just fit you so well.

As far as custom folders for EDC are concerned, I went through a bunch until I got large Dozier folding hunter. That knife feels just right for me, so between it and a large Mayo TNT I don't really want for anything in a tactical style folder.

I've yet to find as clear a winner for production folders, but perhaps that's due to the fact that it's easier to sample and hold on to a greater variety of them. There's a lot of good stuff on the production market these days, can't eat just one.

My knife buying has really slowed down in the last few months. I was actually talking about selling a few and my wife wanted to know who I was and what I had done with her husband.

Once I got my Paramilitary, I quit looking for the "perfect" knife to carry to work. The P-mil is great for the things I need to do, which isn't all that much since I got promoted. As you can see from my signature, I have quite a few Spydies. Most of what I have bought lately is collectible stuff, like the colored Dyad Jrs. I also picked up an NIB Tenacious and used Calypso Jr. on bladeforums for about 64 bucks total...couldn't pass that up!

But I'm with you aj....I have really slowed down my knife buying. Mainly to focus on bills and my savings, in my case.

Same with me aj. I've been carrying my Delica1/SE in AUS8 for 2 weeks straight now without changing for even a day and I have anther one coming out of a trade . So I guess I'm pretty close to the knife that fits me the best.

Due to bills and such I haven't bought a new Spydie or any knife for over half a year.

Furthermore I'm sorry to say that I'm not very impressed with the current line up of Spyderco.

No matter how many nice knives I have I could still find a hundred more I would like to have, and get to know them inside and out. There are endless variations even with the same steel and lock system. Then throw in different steels, different designs etc. and I'm hooked.

I read about a couple ( rich compared to me I'd guess) that had a room in their house dedicated to replicating a gun store. Not just a rack of guns, but all the other stuff that went in to filling all the isles in the store, magazines and cleaning kits and all.

I can relate. I would have a period correct sales /display case of Bucks, schrade, etc.

Cardboard packs of cheap "ideals" in different colors. A big glass case of Spyderco models of course, starting from C01 on.

I'd still find time to volunteer at the local retirement home of course, but I wouldn't have to get in my car to drive to my favorite hangout. I could stay at home with my loved ones and be there.

Big, big wishfull thinking. Oh well. I still believe in volunteer work, and prefer the "greatest generation". they've not got long left and I find them in a lot of cases to live up to their generational nickname.

They did big things in their time. Sorry for the ramble. Joe

I hear you as well. I've picked up "bits & pieces", so to speak but really not going at it like before - I used to be good for 3 or 4 every month. I've sort of reached the point where my EDC's (daily, evening/weekend - whatever comes up) have become extremely constant, and it really does have to peak my interest before I take the plunge. My latest were the new G-10 Police in SE and a Tasman Salt/SE. I bought the new Police because I could go lefty, and wanted the SE - I already have an SS stainless/PE Police (I put piece of cocobolo on the non-clip side), but didn't use it that much. I had a chance to try Simon's Salt on the Canadian Passaround and finally broke down and got one. Interestingly, they both got "work" this weekend (got'em on Friday) and now have a bit of "character"

I noticed you had a Sebbie I finally found a couple locally and got to fondle them for a bit. It's definitely got me thinking but I think if I'm going to drop that kind of coin, it's gonna be a lefy version. I'm figurin' at that kind of price point, it had better be at least lefty Aside from the lefty thing, I'm trying to decide between the small and large - already decided it won't be a plain classic, but maybe.......we'll see where I end up on this one. I don't just collect but in see everything else, for me, there just hasn't been all that much.

Hey bro you firefighters must make a boat load of coin eh or are you getting a cut of those firefighter calendars

I wish I could carry the Dodo, but at my current job it is a bit of a hindrance. The handle profile is a bit to wide and every second I feel it and since I'm a shipper it really doesn't go well at the moment.

Ironically in the next few days I'm gonna get rid of 4 of them since they don't get used and only keep 3-4 for myself which have special meaning. Come to think of It I really should have taken a picture when I had 20-21 of these guys I miss the flock sometimes.

If it don't work it can't stay here
is my new mentality and I'm sticking to it.

    take care my friend
    aj

p.s I needed a change so I took the Khalsa with me today. No clue as to why, but I really need to get some titanium on this khalsa. That would be sweet.

I'm pretty much there too. Just sold a BNIB Merlin and traded a couple of blue G-10 beauties (Dodo and Yojimbo) because I just didn't carry them...ever. What did I trade for? A C83 Persian that saw two continuous weeks of pocket time and use. I also just recently got 2 more C83's as well as 3 Kris' which saw alot of pocket time too. Now, there really is nothing out there that I really want. My EDC rotates around between a Millie, Endura, Persian or Kris for my big blade and a Delica, Mini Persian, Cricket, Caly 3 or Lava for my small blade. I have found that the above (along with a couple of Rescues, a Tenacious and my Chinook 3) give me enough variety to keep me very happy. Keeps the wife happy too!

My Military slowed me down a bit. But Ive since got the G10 Endura, now oranged and D2 Para. There are a few here and there that I'd really like but honestly cant see myself carrying. My Military is still my number one go to knife even over my newly clad Endura. Gonna carry it for a while though, show it off and such. The Orange.

I feel much better now. My knife "problem" must be in an early stage of progression compared to that list. Really I'm just jealous Tony...

Tony - you make-a me feel bad because I only got 62 - but I tell you what I will do ! Trade you a Captain & 2 big ones for the Lum*-lol Only kidding, I know it has a good home and I let the Captain out of the gun/safe once a week to let it breathe. Don't post on here much as I know a little about everything and not much about anything - so mostly I just read about what is going on in here when I can find the time to do so. You need to go get another knife in the morning as yours are getting lonely!!! lol Later.

Aj1985, speaking of BG42 sebenzas, am I correct in thinking that the older BG42 sebenzas are worth as much if not more than the newer S30 sebenzas on the used sebenza market.

The Large , regular BG42 sebenza is the one I would desire most if I wanted a sebenza. Joe

I'm at the same point. I'd like to get a Sage and an Urban when they come out, but I'm pretty well pleased with the 12-15 knives that I have.

A word of advice... Don't start looking at flashlights!

Ive really down sized my collection this year. Sold maybe 10 knives. I now have a Para, a Millie, and an Endura4. Those knives are the only ones that work. Put the money I got from the knives into the wife and my Emergency fund. It cant be touched now

You make an excellent point This last go-round with me, I think was 4 or 5 's to every "other", though, I did get my Kershaw Leek between the G-10 D4/Byrd Wings and G-10 Police/SE, Tasman Salt. But then before that, it was a UKPK and SS Dragonfly Soooooooo, if I quit buying "others" I should be cured I'm thinking of getting a Sebbie of some sort, one of larger Ka-Bar Dozier folding hunters, maybe two - so 15 or so more Spydies and I should be good

    Yeah your right bro

I have seen Bg42 sebbies sell for a premium over their S30v counterparts. Usually the price for NIB is around $450-$500.

In the begining I thought it was funny that old used Bg42 sebbies sell for more than New S30v sebbies. I love this blade though and this is my first Bg42 and it takes an edge like no other.

If you wait a bit you might get a good deal eh.
