My attempt at a light box

i was getting tired of taking crappy pics so i made a light box (i don't if it helped much....lol)....it is pretty basic..i got some white cloth, a light, a cardboard box, and lots of tape. if you are going to try this i would say go with a white box to begin with. i had to use some copy paper to line the box before i taped the cloth to the sides. i used a real bright flourescent light...i think i might try a regular spotlight next time.

i don't have a freaking clue....the best pics were using the dummy, auto mode..i changed backgrounds and once moved the cloth out of the way of the light with the endura..that was it.

great light ghetto box tony, I used to have a box like that and i miss it, now i have a hardwood cube frame w/ styro walls, however the pics are sub-par than the once i took using the DIY box...
picture people what's the wattage of the lamps you use and how many how do you place them?

Tony the one with the lighter background Endura looks best imo. I made a box a while back and took this pic

but it is too small. I have been thinking since we are trying to get a white background by using cloth or paper. How about using a large styrofoam cooler?

for some reason i dont believe my sony digital 7.1 mega pixel can take pics like these, or can it with the proper set up like these boxes ?

RIOT, I use 6mp point-and-shoot sony digicam for my pics. Just a little tweaking in photoshop helps to get the best out of it.

Tony, check the manual to locate the White Balance settings. I suspect there are 5 or so settings that indicate: daylight (sun), cloudy (cloud) and indoor light (lightbulb) and some other options. Change the setting to the little lightbulb symbol and the yellow streak of your pics should disappear.

The lightbox I have used for some of my pictures consisted of a chair with a white sheet over it, and a brown blanket as the backdrop. I tend to take pictures a little darker than most people like, but thats my personal preference.

Sounds like ill be giving that a shot here in the near future, i thought i had to purchace an expensive camera and im not into cameras LOL

Tony, I'm betting your cam has a white balance setting for 'incandescent'... that's what you'd need to set it to, to get a more neutral color out of the pics. Most cameras have an auto setting but it doesn't always work. The box must be working though, it is nice even lighting.

You can try this too. Cheap and easy to make. I had originally bought one of those portable photo studios which worked ok, but I still couldn't get brighter looking pics. I got this idea from a knife photographer on another forum and it works really good compared to the portable photo studio. It allows for more even light to be spread out over the photo area. It's made from 1/2" PVC and some "Cracked Ice" fluorescent light diffuser panel from Home Depot. I also bought the clamp-on light fixtures there too for about $5 each. I am using the 6500 fluorescent bulbs. This setup gives you more room for different angles and you can place mirrors and colored reflectors where you need them. Just an idea. Also, your pics look pretty good. Try shooting at the Automatic setting then go to the Program mode and adjust your White Balance settings to Fluorescent or try the "Cloudy Day" setting.
